Dear Mets,
On this Banner Day weekend I thank you whole-heartedly for restoring one of our tribe’s traditions.
The franchise was born from the ashes of blue and the ashes of orange. It was when those two colors merged that magic happened.
The people spoke, and when they spoke it was by sign.
Our tribe lost its way for 15 years or so but now we are whole. Tradition has returned to Queens, and on Sunday once again we will communicate by sign.
In the spirit of happiness for all I ask one simple thing: have a free-thinking empowered boss on 126th street checking people in.
Yes there are guidelines and they are well posted. We all know what these guidelines are there to prevent.
Hopefully the free-thinking empowered boss will not over enforce some guidelines. For example:
If a 6 year old shows up with a sign that isn’t quite 22 by 28, let him in.
If a grandmother shows up with a sign that isn’t quite 22 by 28, let her in. (That’s going to be my mom. She means well.)
These are not rabble rousers. These are well meaning tribe members who didn’t think to measure their creations.
Should someone show up with a sign that you aren’t quite sure is related to Mets History then have someone on staff (his initials are E.W. by the way) nearby to guide you through the 50 years. Or call Howie. Or Greg Prince. Or even me.
Don’t have an over zealous red shirted security guard turn someone away just because they didn’t know what was funny about John Pacella’s cap.
Those who want people to sell things or spread negativity should stay away. I will address that in the Open Letter To Mets Fans.
