Did you see what the Pirates did with their caps last night?
Whereas Paul Lukas writes…
I love it — all of it! On some level, of course, this is a uniform violation, but let’s hope MLB has the good sense not to shut it down.
…I hope it is shut down since MLB has made it clear that the integrity of the official on-field cap can never be violated. Otherwise rogue teams could start wearing FDNY caps on-field and then where does it end?
As for that, in a report on CBS New York from 2011 it says…
Certainly it’s not a lack of respect,” Torre told The Associated Press before New York’s 10-6 loss to the Cubs. “We just felt all the major leagues are honoring the same way with the American flag on the uniform and the cap. This is a unanimity thing.”
So therefore, I think it’s now established that the Mets should use the “unanimity thing” and place first responder stars on their caps on 9/11 next season. Or are only the Pirates allowed to add stars to their caps?
