So many people think of Casey Stengel as the bumbling old manager of the inept expansion Mets. The truth is Casey was one of the great all-time managers and had a Hall of Fame career before he donned the blue and orange.
Suitably his autobiography Casey at the Bat: The Story of My Life in Baseball, was published in 1962 and so while he was the Mets manager, the book deals with his career prior to the “Metsies”.
I wish I could link to it, but it seems to be out of print.
