My pal Cerrone (I don’t know why I call him Cerrone when I type, it’s not like when we have lunch I’m like “What’s up Cerrone?”) linked, so we shall link back. Matt has some good insight into all things Murph. Much more interesting than discussing Two Face every day.
In the event Murphy leaves the Mets, who will Alderson trust to back up Wright, plus be flexible enough to play first base, second base and hit off the bench? Can said player handle New York City pressure, a pennant race and hitting in Citi Field, and also love being in Queens? I don’t know that there is a more-perfect player to fill that role than Murphy, which is why I think there’s a chance he returns…

Shannon: We “Twitter Groupies” know how much you love Murph. So do I; at bat. I mean really, the best that can be said about the defense is that he hits very pretty line drives. But where? He CAN’T continue as the starting 2bman. Great bat; always has been; but its over 5 years and until they come up with a position of “short right field” (he’s be a gold-glover there); where’s he playing?
Murph does not play a bad second. He makes some great plays and some bad ones. He is a better second baseman then Flores is at shortstop. He can also play first and third. I would take Murphy on my team any day of the week.
I forgot we have a 200 hitter waiting in the wings as Shannon likes to point out.
