Bud Harrelson to receive Gil Hodges Award tonight at @liducks game

award

As you may remember it snowed once last winter, and snowed enough to force the cancellation of the 2016 Queens Baseball Convention. (Stupid blizzard).

The Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award is presented each year by QBC to a special figure in our team’s history, someone whose memory will always warm our hearts, brighten our spirits and light our way. In 2014, the first award was dedicated to Hodges himself and was accepted by his son, Gil Hodges, Jr., accompanied by 1969 Mets right fielder Art Shamsky.

In 2015, Ed Charles was our special recipient, and during Ed’s speech it was rumored that some folks had some dust in their eyes. (Listen below and see if you get some dust in your eye.)

Anyway, the organizers did want to make sure Bud Harrelson got his 2016 Gil Hodges Unforgettable Fire Award, and organizer Dan Twohig will be at the Ducks game to make the presentation to Buddy.

As for the 2017 Queens Baseball Convention, there have been some high level conversations over the weekend. Stand by and keep your very late January Saturdays open.
