100 Random Cool Mets Things #38: Hubie Brooks

First of all, I am terrified to learn that Hubie Brooks in now 60 years old.

Another one of those Mets you don’t hear about, Hubie was one of those young guns that helped transition the team from the post Seaver 70s into the 1986 Mets.

He had a different kind of first name, and was young and in-house, and all that added up to him often being paired with a teammate who shared those traits in Mookie Wilson.  Before Doc & Daryl there was Mookie & Hubie.

He was a nice enough player, a necessary casualty of the Gary Carter trade who had seasons in Montreal that were way better than any he ever had in Queens, and even came back to Shea to experience being a 1991 Met.

The stats won’t show it, especially when not adjusted for the 21st Century’s stats inflation – but Hubie was a nice solid Met.
