No discussion of the 90’s and all the horribleness at Shea would be complete without a discussion of the Mercury Mets.
For you younger folks, this was a league wide gimmick in which teams would Turn Ahead The Clock and wear uniforms of the future. Some teams kept it simple and just wore silver versions of their uniforms, some others some oversized logos, and the Yankees told the league to go hose off (which is why it was surprising they caved on the dopey nickname jerseys this summer.)
Over time, some of us fans have collected these as a badge of honor, and hope when the year rolls around (I have been confused on this, is the year 2019, 2021 or 2027?) that the Mets wear these on field.
