Terry Watch Watch: Mets official says he is safe

Again the Terry Watch Watch monitors the media discussing Terry’s safety.  A Terry Watch would be if his doom draws near.

According to a club source, there is “no chance” the Mets manager will become a scapegoat for the team’s second-half collapse and be fired this offseason or before the season concludes.

via Terry Collins, New York Mets manager, won’t be fired before end of season or in offseason, says source – NYPOST.com.

20th anniversary: David Cone-for-Jeff Kent trade

I remember it well.  Pulling out of the Field 6 parking lot at Jones Beach where I heard the stupidest thing I had ever heard.  The horrible details begin below and finish in the link.

Twenty years ago today, a hell of a trade took place, a trade involving two high-profile players with plenty of talent—and the two guys were traded for each other, too. Well, admittedly, one wasn’t anywhere near high profile at the time of the trade, but it’s still a bigger exchange of talent than you normally see in a transaction.

On Aug. 27, 1992, the New York Mets set star pitcher David Cone to the Blue Jays for Jeff Kent. Well, it wasn’t quite a straight up trade, as Toronto also threw in a player to be named later, Ryan Thompson.

I’d rather have David Cone today than Kent in his prime….and Ryan Thompson was 90’s code for Valdespin.

I hope the internet didn’t go out of business with both me and Media Goon traveling.   As I recover, the Mets have sent me an email..

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 27, 2012 – The New York Mets today announced they will partner with Seraphim12 Foundation on “Hooves on First” Night Monday, September 10 at Citi Field when the Mets host the Washington Nationals at 7:10 pm.  The fundraiser will raise awareness about the treatment of horses. Tickets are available at Mets.com/Horse and (718) 507-TIXX.

“Joey,” the life-size horse puppet from the Tony Award-winning play War Horse will be appearing pre-game on Mets Plaza and in-game during the seventh-inning stretch.  Seraphim12 Foundation’s horse ambassador, “Chip,” will also be greeting fans pre-game near Mets Plaza.  Chip often works with inner city and autistic children who have never seen or touched a horse before.

Rock icon, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company, The Firm), who also resurrected Queen, will be singing the National Anthem. A devoted advocate for horses, 100% of the proceeds of Paul Rodgers’ latest release, “With Our Love,” which charted at No. 4 on rock radio, was earmarked to Seraphim12 Foundation and the UK-based Racehorse Sanctuary.  These proceeds have already paid for the rescue and extended care for five abused horses.

Each ticket purchased through Mets.com/Horse will raise money for Seraphim12 Foundation, which supports the advocacy for America’s horses.  Fans buying tickets through this offer will receive a “Hooves on First” t-shirt.

Seraphim12 Foundation is a 501(c)(3) Not-For-Profit dedicated to creating a sympathetic balance between horse and man.  They advocate for a shift in perception about the care and classification of the horse, so that all horses have a dignified life, final retirement and resting place.  Seraphim12 Foundation has a vision of humans helping horses, and horses helping humans. With their humane educational school and summer camp programs, they teach a new way of kindness, compassion and love for all animals, and each other, through the help and guidance of the horses.
