Hmmm Mets hawking Opening Day tickets

Hmmm perhaps those of you predicting awful ticket sales are correct. I just got this email. I already have Opening Day tickets which the email mentions and they want me to buy more.

Hmmmm. Uh oh.

With the Mets Home Opener just over a week away, we would like to offer you an opportunity to purchase additional tickets for Opening Day on Thursday, April 5th at 1:10 p.m.

This offer will be available tomorrow, Wednesday, March 28 at 10 a.m.
through 11:59 p.m.

MasterCard, Visa, American Express and Discover will be accepted.

The Mets will honor the memory of Gary Carter on Opening Day with his family participating in a special pre-game ceremony prior to the season’s opener against the Atlanta Braves at 1:10 p.m.

If you have any questions, please contact your Account Executive directly or call our Ticket Office for assistance at (718) 507-TIXX.

The greatest food at Citi Field is…

Of all the things I tasted last night, and they were all yummy (not just saying that) the greatest food of all was the buttermilk chicken.

Being in my 40’s I can’t wolf down 12 pieces of fried chicken like I used to – well I can, but the shields won’t hold – so I grabbed the smallest piece available.

This thing was amazing. I immediately regretted not getting the biggest piece. Damn.

Knowing I had other places to be last night I did not throw caution to the wind and just had the one piece but man I may change the focus of the blog into nagging the Mets into making this available upstairs where I sit.

Last night’s Mets food event at Citi Field (behind the scenes)

As I told several Mets executives (that makes them sound so formal) I thought last night was the greatest event for a blogger. There was plenty to take pictures of and plenty to talk about. As I put it, I actually don’t want to talk to David Wright, I’d rather talk about this stuff.

Honestly, all the food was delicious. This is the part where some of you start calling me a sell-out. No, the food was delicious. All really tasty. I dug these wings which I will tell you about in a later post…

And this chicken sandwich was awesome and has quite the kick

But the best item of all…well that’s for the next post.

I had several nice conversations with “Mets executives” which were, you know, normal personal conversations about our lives so I’m not going to blog about that. They know who they are and I enjoyed seeing them and talking with them.

Most of the usual suspects of bloggers were there. Man we’ve come a long way from the first time the Mets had the bloggers over for dinner and we were kind of half-expecting the death squads to take us out or at least a stern lecture from Jeff. Nope, the Mets have been nothing but great.

Unfortunately I had to split after an hour to handle a personal situation so I don’t know how the rest of the night went. I will be checking out the other blogs (try On The Black, Ceetar and Ted Quarters for sure – sorry no links, walking down the street at 8am and trying to knock out a day of blogs).

I consider myself quite fortunate to have started a dopey blog about my favorite baseball team that somehow invites me to such things. I expect nothing and am grateful for all these adventures.

Thanks to the Mets for having me over and I’m happy I can share these photos.

Now who wants some cake?

Excerpt from R.A. Dickeys new book, Wherever I Wind Up – MLB – SI.com

I’m struggling for words here.  Powerful stuff from R.A.’s book.

The babysitter has her way with me four or five more times that summer, and into the fall, and each time feels more wicked than the time before. Every time that I know Im going back over there, the sweat starts to come back. I sit in the front seat of the car, next to my mother, anxiety surging. I never tell her why I am so afraid. I never tell anyone until I am 31 years old.I just keep my terrible secret, keep it all inside, the details of what went on, and the hurt of a little boy who is scared and ashamed and believes he has done something terribly wrong, but doesnt know what that is.
