He began collecting Napa Cabernets like Opus One and Silver Oak and later broadened his selection to blue-chip Bordeaux, like Château Haut-Brion, though he also favors (slightly) lesser chateaux like Palmer and Angelus. When he broke Carlton Fisk’s record in 2004, his teammates gave him a 6-liter bottle of another great Bordeaux, 1989 Château d’Yquem, one of the greatest sweet wines in the world. He has yet to open it. “I think I need about 100 people to share it with,” said Mr. Piazza.
…
If he were ever to make his own wine, Mr. Piazza said, it would be from Sicily, though he wasn’t sure it would sell in an American market.
I found that hard to believe. Surely he’d have no trouble selling bottles of Mike Piazza Nero d’Avola in the U.S., especially if he priced it well—say, $12 or $15 a bottle? Mr. Piazza shook his head. “My ego would probably want it to be priced like Hundred Acre,”

Mets Release the Winningest Pitcher They Ever Had
Trivia question – Who was the winningest pitcher to ever don a Mets uniform?
If you guessed Warren Spahn you are correct. Of course Spahn only won 4 games with the Mets, but he won 359 games elsewhere.
More from my parents basement – the NY Daily News from Thursday, July 15, 1965 reporting on Spahn’s release.

Ladies, can your groom convince you to wear this Mets garter?
I don’t make this stuff up, I just blog.
The keepsake garter is made of gathered white organza, with a blue satin band and is adorned with a NY applique on the ruffle.
The toss garter is gathered in licensed New York Mets fabric and white organza.
Both garters are finished with a blue and orange bow and brass baseball charm.
Keeping with the “Something Blue” tradition, all keepsake garters have a little blue bow on the inside.
Garters stretch comfortably to 24″.
I’m not sure “at least it’s blue” applies this time.
