More pics from Mets picture day

@newyorkmets rocking it out
DJ Carrasco up top.
Tim Byrdak, who I learned is a Met, is third.
You know who 28 is right? He’s the guy all the bullies will love come June.

Can you believe they gave away Jeff Kent’s number? Scott Hairston.

I guess the stars get to sleep/eat/get better light.

2011: The year Mets coverage exploded on the internet

Wow, everyone has brought up their game here in the Spring of 2011.  I think for Mets fans this will be a tremendous year for following the team.

I’m blown away by the sheer volume of everything out there.

My current routine:

Get up and shower and maybe even shave and all that.

Email and twitter check.

Adam Rubin’s morning briefing on ESPN New York which has quickly become my go-to-catchup

MetsBlog where Cerrone and Baron are crushing.

Check my Google Reader feeds to catch up on all the Mets bloggers.

Do some actual work.

MetsBlog.

Do some work.

Correct the Mets Police post that Media Goon tells me I screwed up (typo, bad link, forgetting to embed the video)

Lunch/twitter/MetsBlog

Actually work.

Twitter/email/RSS Feeds on way home

Get home and post the next day “dead man style” – I always lay it out in case I don’t show up to blog.  Usually what happens is news develops and I bump generic pieces..but if I get the flu there would still be like 4 posts. *

Check Google video/Youtube

Take a harder look at @newyorkmets to see if I missed anything.  See last night’s Bonilla post for an example.

shut off the damn computer.

This spring I can’t believe the amount of coverage (again Cerrone/Baron crushing) and photos and video.  I don’t think we’ve seen anything at that level.

I like that the blogosphere is starting to spread out.  I honestly get bored when, for example, Terry says Reyes will start at SS this season and we get 50 variants on

“Collins: Reyes is my SS”

“Reyes to be Mets SS”

“Mets’ skipper announces Reyes as SS”

That crap gets so tedious, especially on twitter.

I’m psyched for when games start – I often but not always hang out for a few innings @metspolice twitter and I hope you’ll join in the communal hang.  The Mets are getting more social (media) and that means more content getting to you more quickly….and more “meat” and less alternate cap posts (although who doesn’t love an alternate cap post?)

This weekend I will be at Saturday’s home game in PSL and will post something from there – no “dead man” – probably blurry crooked pics or whatnot.  Sunday I’ll be in Orlando to root for Ollie Perez.

What sources do you guys check?

*here’s a peek at my editorial calendar, very very subject to change.

Mets picture day

@newyorkmets are tweeting photos from picture day. The Mets are up early!

It is nice to see the blue caps and the present primary uniform being worn (one battle at a time).

Keep an eye on @newyorkmets who are kicking tweet this spring.

In case you’re wondering there were no additional birthday tweets last night.

Mets wish some former players Happy Birthday. They missed one. But he’ll get $1.1 million dollars soon.

Oh, I am such a trouble-maker but this is so much fun.

It is 7:25pm.

This is the @newyorkmets timeline for today.

I know that’s hard to see, but if you click on it you’ll see:

Happy Birthday wishes to Ken Boswell, who hit .333, with two HRs and drove in 5 runs in the 1969 NLCS as the Mets swept the Braves.about 5 hours ago via web

Happy Birthday to Ron Hunt, who was the first Met to start an All-Star Game with his appearance at second base in 1964!!about 5 hours ago via web

That’s very nice.  Who doesn’t love Ken Boswell or Ron Hunt?

But what about this man?  He was born on February 23, 1963.

He was a TWO-TIME Met.  How bad could he be if they brought him back?  It’s not like that was an idiotic thing to do.

He’s so special that starting on July 1 he will get $1,193,248.20 a year from the Mets for the next 25 years. That’s some nice coin, and don’t forget the 20 cents Fred.

Happy Birthday Roberto.  I’m sure the Mets just forgot.  They’ll remember you in July.

Yes, this was naughty of me.  If I’m the Mets I’d fire off about 40 straight tweets of anything (like spring pics) and slip in a Bonilla Birthday wish on like #25.  There’s still time.

Photo: Mets Banner Day 1969

Mike must have ESPN (correction, I meant ESP – iPad spelling “corrections” are so cute)…he emailed this to me yesterday morning before my Banner Day rant.

Here’s another photo of folks  expressing their love for The Product Designed To Sell Tickets, Concessions and Merchandise in 1969. Click on it for a much larger and beautiful look at people appreciating a corporate identity.
