Shake Shack Video

Here’s a rather generic Shake Shack story but how about that Hernandez jersey :26 seconds in?  And when did they film this, 7 in the morning?  There’s like five people on line on a “day when the digits hit triple digits.”

Brian owns these Mets jerseys: Derek Bell

Third in a 5 part series.  I believe there was one Derek Bell jersey ever sold, and Brian is going to tell us about it:

Bell
I kind of love this one just because of the lore of D. Bell.

I ran out and got this blank black Mets alternate customized in the summer of 2000 after Bell all but put the Mets on his back in May and June of their National League Championship season. The 15 year old version of me loved everything about Bell: his ridiculously baggy uniform, walking up to the plate to Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin'”. Despite the fact that Bell only played for the Mets for a season, this might be one of my favorites.

The only thing that gets to me about this one is that I purchased this in 1998, so this is the original version of the Mets black alternate (notice the blue skyline patch. It was like that for a year on the black unis). Bell technically didn’t wear this version of the black, so I wish I would have gone Piazza on this one. But it’s a quirky piece in my collection.

That blue logo makes it slightly less hideous than the black skyline patch.

David Wright is 8th most marketable

I didn’t get a chance to mention that David Wright was named the 8th most marketable player in a study.

That old guy that plays short across town was #1 and A-Rod was #9.

It has been a long time since the Mets had a marketable player. I don’t remember too many Piazza ads, maybe the cold I am fighting has my brain fogged – I think Mike may have done something with razors.

Before that I think you go back to the young Dwight Gooden.

Ya ever notice how I often phrase it “the young Dwight Gooden?”

There was something special those first three years. I’m sorry most of you kids missed it. Later Doc may have been “Santana good” at times (maybe not even that good) but the young Dwight Gooden was Strasburg at his best every time out.

I digress.

So the Mets find themselves with a marketable player. Ed Coleman called him the defacto captain on Sunday. Although a few of you wanted to run him out of town in April, perhaps DW is The Franchise II.

What should the Mets do with such a player? Long contract? A black C on his jersey? Off field what? His own store?

I’m going to try to catch up on the inbox today. My war against lawyers is going well. Hopefully I will have a few minutes to myself. Time to turn into Clark Kent…see you guys in a few. I hope you like food because that’s this morning’s topic.
