Interested in a Citi Field Suite?

Me, I’m an upper-deck Promenade kind of guy.  However, I could see the enticement of trying a skybox once  Ceetar sent this over from our favorite ballclub.

At this time we here at the New York Mets would like to inform you we have started selling our Individual Game Suite Rentals.

The cost of our suites for an individual game varies depending on the day of the week and month in which the game is played.  Attached, is a pricing sheet for individual games as well as additional information and details about renting an Empire Suite during the upcoming 2010 season.

David Wright understands the mission

I probably should have written this about 16 hours ago but I have some other interests besides the Mets (“job” and “daddy”) but better late than never.

I’m thrilled that finally someone other than me understands the mission and I am thrilled that the person is the future captain David Wright.

At some point Wilponspeak made it seem ok to play “meaningful games in September.”. Yeah that meaningful game 162 in ’07 and ’08 meant a lot. Who can ever forget the thrill of Tom Cylon Glavine’s final Mets appearance or the last game at Shea?

I hate to bring up certain other teams but the Yankees get it. Girardi is changing his uniform number to 28 to remind everyone of what the goal is. (I double dare Jerry to wear 3).

It makes me happy to her Wright talking about winning the World Series. Not a rebound, not make the playoffs. Win.

If all goes well, Wright will play his entire career here and we’ll finally have a Franchise who didn’t spend 6 years in Ohio.

So far DW has been on the quiet side, and one thing the recent teams have missed is that Hernandez/O’Neill/LoDuca type that will get in the face of teammates when they start slacking. I don’t know if Wright has that in his personality, but the quote was a good start.

Just like I challenged Reyes yesterday to put all aspects of his game together, it is time for David to lead. Hitting a quiet .300 isn’t enough. Time to win. You understand the mission, now go grab the other 24 guys by the neck and make Omar look like a genius.

Glad Reyes feels fine: time to put it all together

In my two years doing this I have ticked off some folks with my criticism of Jose Reyes. Basically, I see the tools you see but I don’t see a player who has put then all together to be a superstar.

That being said, I’m happy to hear he’s feeling fine. I’m cautious because the Mets training staff has taught me to fear. I worry Jose is one bad step away from 6 months on the DL and I don’t think I will ever shake that feeling.

As much as this blog can be about criticizing, I’m just a Mets fan like you who wants them to win the World Series (in nice uniforms). Hopefully this is the season Jose wins the MVP.

However I stand by what I’ve said in the past: through this point, Jimmy Rollins has been a better player. He doesn’t have the tools, but he has accomplished more with less. Take your Phillies rage away for a second: who would you rather have, Kent or Backman? Jefferies or Backman? Mookie or Bonilla? Sometimes raw talent isn’t everything.

You can show me all the studies you want about Citi Field but ideally someone is telling Reyes not to try to match his 19 homers from 2006. .300 and lots of steals would go a long way (thanks Captain Obvious).

Finally, winning does make a difference. Buddy Harrelson was loved in this town and it wasn’t because of numbers.

The talent is there, time to put it all together and lead this team to a ring.

The Mets hold an option for 2011 for $11 million.

The fallacy behind “black sells”: Mets jerseys

Odds are on any given day you’ll find me ranting about the black Mets jerseys.  The best defense has always been that they sell.   This is a business right?

I have long maintained that if the Mets sold orange or blue jerseys they too would sell, because they would be new.

This morning I was doing some shopping and I decided to click on the list of Top Selling Mets items on mlb.com

Those are your Top 5.  Let’s analyze.

1.  A 2009 BP Cap.  It is blue.  It is $9.99

2.  A 2010 BP Cap.  A new item.  It is also blue.  It is $26.99 and not as good looking as the 2009er.

3.  Topps 2010 Blaster.  Coincidentally 2010 Topps are all over the blogosphere and the NY Times.  Funny how that works.

4.  A UV-protecting baseball square.  I cannot explain.

5.  2009 Topps.  Again, baseball cards are in the news.

The 6th item is a Jason Bay t-shirt in black.   Bay is new.

If they wear orange jerseys people will buy them because they will be new.  If they bring back a version of the blue jerseys those will sell too.  Anyone who wants a Piazza or Franco jersey in black has one.   I understand this is about the money, but time to let the black be turn-of-the-century retros.

Not on the best seller list are these 1987ers.

Mets stuff on the internet this morning

Quickies from the interweb:

Another mention of the All-Star Game coming to Citi Field in 2013.

Braves fans wondering if the Mets will beat out the Nationals.

Even the Denver Post can tell what’s wrong over here:

Will the Mets remain a dysfunctional joke?

Apparently so. This was supposed to be the winter the Mets rebuilt their roster, if not their image. Instead, they took another step backward. They spent all their money on slugger Jason Bay, who proved convincingly in Pittsburgh that he’s a complementary player, not a star. With a ballpark built for flyballs to die, they should have overspent on right-hander John Lackey, pairing him with Johan Santana, grabbed ex-Rockie Jason Marquis and landed a catcher such as Bengie Molina or Yorvit Torrealba. Their alarming inactivity only widened the gap between them and their rival Phillies.

MetsBlog posted this picture.  As I mentioned over the weekend, if you must have black, the black-on-blue looks better than blue on black – this look is close to not being horrible, but ruined by the orange underarms, and the tried-too-hard 2010 batting practice caps.
