Mets Open Workout At Citi Field

Good job out of the Mets.

Today the missus and I were able to spend several hours walking all around Citi Field courtesy of the Mets. The Mets opened the gates of the new field at 9:30 AM to all season and plan holders to watch a team workout at 11 AM.

Not surprisingly most people did not watch the workout.

We spent our time walking the ballpark- each concourse on every level. Not only that but the Mets even opened the doors to all the restaurants that, during the season, are closed to most fans. We were able to see the inside of the Acela Club, Caesar’s Club, Promenade Club, and the Ebbets Club.

Most concession stands were open and the lines seemed to be moving a bit better than they were on Friday night.

The only glitch we encountered all day was in the team store after the workout was over – the credit card systems were down (again).

Oh, the pulled pork sandwich from Blue Smoke was amazing!

Here are about 2 dozen pictures from in and around the ballpark – enjoy!

Yankee Stadium Makes Me Feel Like Randy Jackson

I’m still trying to find the right words about Yankee Stadium.

It’s not bad…it’s…well….

I feel like Randy Jackson.   You just sang your song, it wasn’t good, but I don’t feel like hammering you.

Deep breath…..”Wow……that upper deck…dude…you know I love you but that just wasn’t good…”

It’s not bad…I’m just not feeling it.

Any other Yankee fans out there care to comment?

Here’s my review.

Opinions Flow On Yankee Stadium’s Obstructed Views (Times)

Published: April 4, 2009
Sections in right and left field account for 1,048 bleacher seats where the view is obstructed. Most fans there are upset — no matter how little they paid for their tickets.

Where Are They Now: Craig Swan (Daily News)

OK enough negativity for today….let’s remember our old friend Craig Swan.

You remember Swannie?  He was the guy that shared a baseball card with Ron Guidry (ERA leaders) that have you half a leg to stand on with your Yankee friends when you were in grammar school.   Sure, the Yankees were winning the World Series, but we had the “best” pitcher in the NL, right?

Swan pitched for all or parts of 12 seasons in the majors from his debut for the Mets in 1973 to his final outing with the Angels in 1984. All but two of his 231 games in the big leagues were with the Mets and he was known as one of the few bright spots on the awful Met teams of the late ’70s. He won the National League ERA title in 1978 (2.43) and was 14-13 with a 3.29 ERA, 10 complete games and three shutouts for a team that finished 35 games out in 1979. Overall, he finished 59-72 with a 3.74 ERA.

Scenarios For Rainouts for Mets & Yankees HOME Openers

Hey Daily News, welcome to the party.  Where were you a week ago when I was trying to Get Citi Field’s Opening Night Game Changed To A Day Game? with the help of some other bloggers.

Well. better late than never…

The Mets do have an off-day on Tuesday, April 14, the day after their home opener with San Diego. Still, some fans are griping because the lid-lifter at Citi, which they say never sleeps, is a night affair beginning at 7:10 rather than a traditional Opening Day.
Those looking to assign blame for this can point fingers at the players’ union and MLB. On Sunday, April 12, the Padres entertain San Francisco in a 1:05 p.m. start. MLB’s basic agreement stipulates that when a team must travel from the Pacific time zone to the East Coast, the next day (in this case Monday, April 13) must be an off-day.
“But we are allowed seven exceptions to that rule, no more than one per club, but it has to be a day game in the Pacific time zone followed by a night game in the Eastern time zone,” Feeney said. “That’s what is happening here.”
In the Bronx, people are already sweating.
Well, if the game is postponed, those hoping to be a part of history won’t be. This is Cleveland’s only trip to the Stadium in 2009. So, it looks like if the opener is bagged, it would be rescheduled for Friday evening as part of a split-admission doubleheader.
Two reasons for that possible scenario: (1) Saturday’s game, nationally televised by Fox, is a 4 p.m. start and (2) the “opener” could not be made up on Sunday (after the scheduled 1:05 game) because it’s a getaway day.
Katy Feeney, MLB’s senior VP of scheduling and club relations, prefers that Yankee fans with tickets to the home opener remain optimistic. “It’s going to be a gorgeous day,” she said. “Don’t worry, it’s going to be a gorgeous day.”

So the Yankees were willing to play Weather Poker but the Mets weren’t.  I still think the Mets should have scheduled the opener for 1:10, on Tuesday if need be.  There’s still time…
