Hey there folks. It’s 430 am on Friday and I just woke up because my body is on stupid film production time. I just cleared my eyes and saw this report. No idea how true it is yet because I haven’t see a confirmation yet but what the hell let’s slide this bit of Mets news out into the world.

The Mets and third baseman David Wright came to terms on a seven-year, $122 million extension on Friday to keep the six-time All-Star and face of the franchise in Flushing, according to Ed Coleman of WFAN Radio in New York.
The Mets have yet to make an announcement on the deal.
Wright, who will turn 30 on Dec. 20, will make $16 million in 2013, the final year of his existing contract. Then he’ll make $122 million over the next seven years. The deal will make Wright the highest-paid player in club history. In total, Wright’s new deal will be for $138 million over the next eight years. Johan Santana’s six-year, $137.5 million contract from 2008 had previously been the club’s most expensive deal.
Coleman, WFAN’s Mets beat reporter, reported the deal just before 2 a.m. ET on Friday.
Wright, who grew up a Mets fan in Virginia, was drafted by New York with the 38th pick in the 2001 First-Year Player Draft, and made his Major League debut in 2004. In his nine-year career in Flushing, he has taken over the franchise lead in hits, with 1,426, and RBIs, with 818. He hit .306 with 21 homers and 93 RBIs in 156 games for New York in 2012.

I’m thrilled this is out of the way before the front office leaves for the MLB Winter Meetings, which start next Monday in Nashville. Again, as I mentioned this morning, there is lots of buzz that the Mets hope to be active next week. I don’t think they plan to sit on their hands, as some fans fear. They are working a few trade scenarios, most including R.A. Dickey and Jon Niese, and I’m fairly certain they’re eyeing deals with one or two light-weight free agents. I have no idea if trades will be made. However, according to people from other organizations, the Mets are talking and looking to be active. I hope things go their way, because only re-signing Wright is not nearly enough to improve this team for next year.

PS- I also hope this news is true about Wright because I would have a lot of out of date Mets Jerseys then with his name on the backs.
