Mets Press Release About Collins Extension

TERRY COLLINS, METS AGREE ON TWO-YEAR CONTRACT

FLUSHING, N.Y., November 4, 2015 – The New York Mets today announced that manager Terry Collins and the club have agreed on a two-year contract that extends through the 2017 season.

“We all thought Terry did a masterful job managing the team and he’s earned this contract,” said General Manager Sandy Alderson. “The team never lost focus and was always ready to respond to challenges. He’s the perfect leader to take us to the next step, which is to win championships.”

Collins, 66, guided the 2015 Mets to their first National League pennant and World Series appearance since 2000 in his fifth season as the club’s manager. The Mets’ 90 wins during the regular season were the most since 2006 and it marked the 11th time in team history that New York reached the 90-win plateau. He also guided the team to a franchise record-tying 11-game win streak from April 12-23. Following the season, Collins was voted the Sporting News NL Manager of the Year.

“I want to thank Fred Wilpon, Saul Katz, Jeff Wilpon and Sandy for giving me this opportunity,” Collins said. “I greatly appreciate the support from the front office and fans.”

“The organization is in the right place to win and advance into the postseason,” Collins added. “This extension is a tribute to our players, our coaches and our entire organization. We have a great blend of youngsters and veterans. They played hard and played for each other. This season was my most rewarding year in my career.”

Collins has 394 wins in his time as the Mets manager, the third-most wins in franchise history, trailing only Davey Johnson (595) and Bobby Valentine (536).

Collins has an 838-850 (.496) record in 1,688 games across 11 seasons for his major league career as a manager. He began his work in the Mets organization in 2010 as the Minor League Field Coordinator before being named the 20th manager in team history on November 23, 2010.

During his tenure as the Mets manager, Collins has been named to the National League All-Star coaching staffs in 2012 and 2013 and will manage his first mid-summer classic next summer in San Diego.

World Series Mets Thoughts

Well that was fun/sucked. The roller coaster season was so cathartic that I have a feeling it is going to take us all a while to decompress. CitiField was rocking last night. Fans were going nuts. Harvey looked like he was going to change his narrative for the season if only his coin didn’t come up the scarred side up when flipping to see if he came back in the ninth. Murphy. You all know we love him here at MP, but the dude does so much better when he isn’t thinking. You can tell his brain was going full out YIP on him. Murph murphed when he needed to make plays.
Colactus making some weird bullpen moves throughout the series that still baffle me.

Cespedes. You guys were all thinking I’m nuts saying he wasn’t a guy you want to sign long term when he was hitting his bombs after he got traded but there was a reason he kept getting traded and I could also see how he wasn’t always hustling. The stories I had heard about him off the field also didn’t make me too high on him either.

d’Arnaud- please, please work on your throws to second behind the plate. The Royals ran at will on you. I have faith in you man. You are going to be a solid player once you do that and stay healthy

Thor really stepped up and did what he needed to do. He really has matured over the season and playoffs and now looks to be a “major leaguer”.

Even with the loss of the World Series, I had a great time this whole season. This was my first time I was able to go to the playoffs in my adult life. Got to hang with a lot of people I call good friends almost every weekend. Got to travel across there country with the7linearmy and I am just happy the Mets got into playoffs and I really can’t wait until next year.

All of us fans can hold out heads high knowing our team did way more then any of us thought they would.

Let’s Go Mets!

World Series Game 4 Thoughts

DARK HARVEY

That was a rough loss last night. Murphy goes from being THE GOAT in Chicago to being the goat in nyc. I want the Mets to resign number 28 just because I am worried about number 5’s health. Murphy can play three positions as long as he isn’t thinking. I hope all you see why I haven’t wanted the Mets to resign Cespedes after this season. Yes he got the Mets into the playoffs but from what I have seen not he field and what I have heard about his personality off the field, I don’t want someone like that on the team for the amount of money he wants.

That’s two games the Mets have given away this series. They easily could be up 3-1, but all is not lost. I have a feeling the Mets will come back tonight. Support the team. Support the other fans. CHEER LOUD. Make it sound like thunder int he stadium. Matt “Harvey” Dent has the chance to fully redeem himself tonight with a win.

Mets World Series Game 3 Thoughts

I loved that Syndergaard showed some attitude by backing off Escobar with the first pitch from the plate. That’s the grit this team has needed for years. The quotes from Thor are even as good. “This is my plate, not theirs”, I love it. Wright coming through with maybe a World Series moment or two last night. Granderson hitting that timely home run. You could tell that the Mets were going to win last night from the beginning even down 1-0 then 3-2. You knew Familia had this on lockdown last night

The atmosphere out there was great. The fans showed up in force and I haven’t been to an event that electric in forever. To be at these playoff games and now the World Series has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. I am so glad I got to be there and not stuck at home watching it on TV because I don’t find going to games fun.

I still can’t believe how the stadium looks when its full. I am still shooting crowd shots but so many people were using their phones last night that I couldn’t publish them. I can’t wait to get back for tonight’s game.

I’m ready….

Happy Halloween folks… Time for a treats tonight for us and hopefully the Mets have more tricks for KC
