The Mets Do Listen to Us Fans

Dave Howard was on WFAN earlier and explained the ticket price reductions and the extra ten percent on top of that is also taken off for season ticket and partial ticket plans.

Plan holders have been wondering how come we never received a discount for basically buying in bulk. Well, finally the Mets paid attention to all their market research they have been doing. Shannon posted a lot of the surveys here on Mets Police.

That extra ten percent off is great on top of the reductions you are getting except if your in the Promenade Sections. Why is being in the Promenade Sections bad? Well, thats the only section thats getting an increase. A five percent increase. The only thing I wasn’t clear on is if its for all three sections in the Promenade(reserved, box, club) or for two out of three of of them, or just for one of them? That concerns me because I have my seats in the Promenade Box section and I want to know if I am getting that increase.
In all I am just glad the organization is realizing that it had alienated a lot of its fan base and is trying to make up for it.

Now if we could only have Saturday and Sunday plans with just Saturday or Sundays in them and not weekday games. There is a reason why I have my Sunday plan. I can’t make weekday games because I work crazy hours.

Mets hire J.P. RICCIARDI

The Mets just sent out this email about the first new hire in the new Sandy Alderson regime.
What do you guys think?

METS NAME J.P. RICCIARDI SPECIAL ASSISTANT
TO GENERAL MANAGER SANDY ALDERSON

FLUSHING, N.Y., November 2, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced that J.P. (John Paul) Ricciardi has been named Special Assistant to General Manager Sandy Alderson. From November 14, 2001 through 2009, he was the Senior Vice President, Baseball Operations and General Manager for the Toronto Blue Jays. Ricciardi spent last season as a baseball analyst for ESPN.

“J.P. brings a wealth of knowledge and a breadth of experience to the organization,” said Alderson. “I worked with him for over a decade in Oakland and I know first hand he’s a superb talent evaluator. He’ll be a tremendous resource in a variety of areas.”

In his new role, Ricciardi will assist Alderson in all aspects of the baseball department.

The 51-year-old worked for the Oakland Athletics for 16 years (1986-2001), including 12 years (1986-1997) when Alderson was the team’s General Manager.

“I couldn’t be more excited about being reunited with Sandy,” said Ricciardi. “We enjoyed tremendous success together in Oakland and it’s my goal to help duplicate that here with the Mets. As a former Met farm hand, it’s a double homecoming for me.”

Ricciardi played two seasons in the Mets minor league system after signing as a non-drafted free agent. In 1980, he was a teammate of current Oakland GM Billy Beane in the New York-Penn League with Little Falls and in 1981 he played for Shelby (A) of the South Atlantic League.

Mets and K Rod Reach a Settlement

By: Media Goon

I know this news is a few hours old already, but even at my job I can get busy with work.Remember that closer we had this year that did that thing that I dont want to rehash and broke his hand? Yeah thats right K Rod.

Well the Mets and K Rod had settled the grievance of his contract and the Mets wanting to void it. The Mets sent out a press release to explain what the terms are.

FLUSHING, N.Y., OCTOBER 19, 2010 – The New York Mets today announced that the grievance filed by Francisco Rodriguez has been resolved.  Rodriguez has instructed the Major League Baseball Players Association not to challenge the team’s decision to withhold his salary for the remainder of the 2010 season. In return, the Mets have agreed they will not seek to convert Rodriguez’s contract to a non-guaranteed contract, and will remove him from the Disqualified List.  Rodriguez will forego approximately $3.1 million of 2010 salary as a result of this agreement.

Jeff Wilpon also added:

“We are pleased that Frankie Rodriguez has accepted responsibility for his actions and their consequences.  We have been assured that he is taking steps to address the issues that led to the incident, and that those efforts will continue.  We have also been assured that he will work hard both on and off the field to regain the trust of the organization, Mets fans and the community.”

Mark Simon Compares A Couple of Texas Pitchers Too

Shannon sometimes doesn’t give himself enough credit about the posts he comes up with. For a fat(his words, not mine) blogger from his basement he is almost always ahead of the curve. He compares Cliff Lee to Mike Scott of the 1986 Houston Astros. You can read his post here.

Mark Simon, of ESPN New York, also makes the same comparison and a few others too.
You can read that here.
