Regional Nathan’s Hot Dog contest at Citi Field on June 26th

Old blog-friend TKS brought to my attention that there will what seems like a play-in game for the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest.   Come to Citi (I almost write Shea again for the millionth time) on June 26th, win and you’re in.  I think.

For all things food check out this very cool site Scoreboard Gourmet which has the story phrased properly, and also reviews a bunch of foodage (made up word I coined) at Citi.

Fan says he’s lending Lee Mazzilli bat to Mets Museum

As I surfed the net I discovered Jack who was kind enough to email me back.  I saw Jack mention that he was lending the Mets some items from his personal collection.  I was curious about the items, and how someone could potentially submit an item for consideration.

Jack emailed:

I think they are collecting items that they can’t get from the Baseball HOF or other sources.  I thought they would be interested in some of my game-used jerseys ( I have some great ones from the 60s & 70s ) but they are getting some from the HOF & didn’t want mine.  I am lending them a game-used Lee Mazzilli bat & a Shea St. dedication program from ’64…   I think someone would have to go through the front office /marketing dept……. Hope that helps,  Jack

I believe this is our first insight into what kinds of items the museum might have.  Sounds very cool.  A game-used Lee Mazzilli bat!   Awesome.

Thank you

Thank you for reading Mets Police.

Yesterday was the biggest readership day in the two years I’ve been doing this.

This site is nothing without support.  If you have sent something in, thanks.  If you participate in the comments, thanks.

Yesterday several hundred people signed up to get Mets Police via a free daily email which is great because it means our community of Mets fans gets that much bigger.

I appreciate all the tips that come in, even if we cause a Shake Shack scare every now and then (please note that David Lennon quoted Jeff Wilpon on that one – someone reads all this).

As a community of fans who love our team, I’d like to think that we collectively (you, me, and all the other Mets blog) help influence things like the Apple moving.  Maybe we get the Sid Fernandez brick changed.   I understand we’d all take a World Series over any of those things, but I don’t think there’s any reason why the Mets can’t win and have the bricks right.

Finally, I would like to thank Matt Cerrone of Metsblog. It’s the links from Metsblog that introduce people to my site, and Matt’s two links yesterday sent over 5,000 people this way.

I can be reached at [email protected]   I’m always happy to chat with a Mets fan on the side.  Ideas for articles are great.  If you’re interested in writing for the site (especially you regulars) let me know.
