Mets to play in Williamsport Little League Classic in 2025

Get ready, kids, because the New York Mets and Seattle Mariners are headed to the 2025 Little League Classic in Williamsport, Pennsylvania! MLB announced Sunday night that the big game is set for Sunday, Aug. 17, and it’ll technically be a home game for the Mets—because nothing says “home-field advantage” like playing in a minor league stadium 150 miles away from your actual home.

As part of the tradition, Mets and Mariners players will be violating rule 4.06 and rubbing elbows with the stars of the Little League World Series earlier in the day, doing their best to inspire the next generation of baseball players while secretly hoping they don’t get shown up by a bunch of 12-year-olds. The event’s held at Muncy Bank Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field, which Major League Baseball poured millions into renovating back in 2017, because if there’s one thing MLB knows how to do, it’s throw money at stadiums.

This will be the eighth edition of the Little League Classic—because 2020 doesn’t count for obvious reasons. For the Mets, it’s a return to glory; they last played in this event in 2018 when they took down the Phillies, proving once and for all that they can beat teams from Philadelphia when the stakes are…let’s say unique. Meanwhile, the Mariners are making their Williamsport debut, so here’s hoping they can handle the pressure of playing in front of a crowd that’s slightly more sober than your average MLB audience.

The Mets like to go viral: Trump fan reportedly told Maga cap too political for Citi Field

The Mets new marketing guy likes to go viral, so let’s be sure to help him amplify this story from The New York Post

A New York Republican and Trump diehard claims she was barred from entering Citi Field until she took off her “Make America Great Again” hat, a decision the organization claimed was a mistake.

Aura Moody and her friend Taisha were both wearing MAGA hats when they arrived at the venue for the Mets game Wednesday night, along with other members of the Queens Village Republican Club.

They had just made it past security when a Citi Field staffer told them they were not allowed inside with their Trump gear on, she said.

Man, you don’t want to get all political at Citi Field.  You start doing that and the next thing you know Chris Christie is on the board of directors.

The Mets and the 4th Wild Card: What a summer!

The Mets pursuit of the 4th Wild Card went pretty well this week with the Mets going, what was it, 3 and 3 vs. the Miami Marlins and the Philadelphia Kansas City  Oakland Las Vegas Nowhere Athletics.

The team with the Best Owner In Sports continue to hold their position as the 4th Wild Card.  The upcoming week might be tougher.  The Orioles are playing .584 ball as I type this (but hey the Mets are home) and then the Amazins head to San Diego to play the .565 Padres.   If the Mets can stay alive until August 30th things get easier with the White Sox who somehow already have 95 losses on August 18th.

I think Steve has to be happy with what he’s built here in Year 4 of his 5 Year Promise to Win The World Series.  The Front Office has been a picture of stability.  The new marketing guy is crushing it by having the team go viral.

Fans are excited.

Look here at many members of The 7 Line Army filling the place yesterday.   Man those guys are loyal to the last out, and you’d swear that photo was from Harvey Day wouldn’t ya?  Look at them pack it in for first pitch (some of them were on line at Shake Shack, especially the guys in the last 5 rows, they were pretty hungry.  And the guys who had the seats on the bottom left of the photo.  They were getting shakes for the others.

It was about a year ago that I warned The Best Owner In Sports that he had a broken fanbase.  He blew me off.  His team marketed Lindor.  His marketing guy wants the team to go viral, and this week they did!  Everything is great in Queens.

ESPN has the Mets in the top 57% in attendance, but I will tell you once school lets out, the weather warms up, and the fans get attached to great players like this…

…the place will be even more packed.   Who won’t want to spend Labor Day weekend in Queens watching the Mets play the White Sox?

With the pursuit of the 4th Wild Card and this week’s viral mareketing on social media, Steve has to be pleased with everyone who works in the organization.  It’s another great summer in Queens!

The marketing guy doesn’t want to be like the Yankees (#2 in attendance) and the Mets didn’t take a run at Ohtani, who call me crazy, might have helped with the viral posts on social media.

What’s gonna be the excuse this winter when they don’t get Soto after blatantly flirting with the guy for a year.  And if you’re Soto, why wouldn’t you stay in the Bronx?  Those Yankees and Dodgers are crazy with their mix of star players and wining baseball.  Who wants to be like them when you can Hawk Tuah?

Black Uniforms, City Connect, the destruction of the museum, Hawk Tuah and the 4th Wild Card.  What a summer!

Opinion: Meet the Man behind stupid things happening with The Mets

Front Office Sports has a must-read/watch with Mets president of business operations Scott Havens, whose work I will say I am not at all a fan of,  It has inspired this opinion piece.

The team has embraced infielder Jose Iglesias’s song “OMG” as an anthem. When 97-year-old veteran Seymour Weiner was honored at a game and went viral for his name, the team didn’t shy away. It had Weiner promote Dollar Dog night. Another breakout sensation has been Max Wiener, the “Rally Pimp.”(via Front Office Sports)

Here’s a quote.  LITTLE BROTHER SYNDROME MUCH????: “By the way, this would never have happened in the Bronx. Never, ever have happened in the Bronx, because 27 world titles, ‘we’re the Yankees.’ … When things pop up that can be loosely correlated to a winning streak, Mets fans jump on this. … With the social media team that we’re investing in, we jumped on it very quickly. We most certainly didn’t start the fire, but we put gasoline on it.”

Here’s a video of Scott explaining how his philosophy at a conference at the Hamptons, a relatable thing to any Mets fan.

I like when he says “The MLB” a few times.

Another highlight is when the host asks “how many people know about Grimace” and they get a few hands.  I guess its not that viral Scott.

Another note – he talks about how “they” were losing in May, but then “we” were winning after Grimace.  Fascinating.

At the 21 minute mark he tries to spin the proposes casino area as “former ash dump” which yeah sure, but that’s like calling Washington DC a former swamp.  Accurate, but really irrelevant to the present day.   Manhattan, that former forest.  Anyway Scott, it’s a park.  A casino is not a park.  A park is a park.

He also seriously said imagine flying into LGA and taking an underground tunnel (name checking The Boring Company) to Willets Point.  Yeah OK.  Also, we’re building a tunnel on that water table???  Yeah???

So there ya have it.  Rally Pimps and Weiner Jokes and now the nice young lady from the other day.  Gotta go viral, because you don’t want to be like those Yankees.

Well Scott, this must all be working.  Let’s check in on the attendance as reported by ESPN.   Boy those Yankees are stupid not doing this cool viral stuff the youths like.

What’s the plan here – show up at Citi Field because you never know who might throw out the first pitch?

Here’s how you get the city talking about the Mets.  Win baseball games.

Here’s how you get attendance to go up.  Win baseball games.

Anyway this explains why the Mets social media accounts are not what they once were.   Oh, and Scott, is that Youtube Show/Podcast that gets 1000 views part of the virality?  Under 600 views for the manager?

Yesterday’s “Seinfeld” was way more accurate than I realized!
