Mets Police Morning Laziness: media falls for Mickey Callaway media stunt. Is he the next Gil Hodges?

SLACKISH REACTION:  Holy sh*t guys – once again the Mets are changing up their conditioning programs. How many times, how many years, are we going to see this as an article?

Speaking of which…

So I had plantar fasciitis, and while I am not a professional athlete, I could not run more than a mile without having to shut it down, and eventually had to take a running break. And MRI for hamstring. Uh oh.

MICKEY MAFIA:   The Marketing of The Manager continues.  He went to visit the t-shirt enthusiasts….which he could have just done and would have been cool…but there happened to be an HD camera along for the ride.

The media lapped this up.

I see a bunch of stories on this.  They might as well let the Mets PR group write the stories for them.   I see how this is going, we’re about two days from declaring him The Next Gil Hodges.

Much like Mickey gets all the credit for Friday’s victory, I think it’s only fair to completely blame him for the Game 2 loss.

Eyeroll…

The Honda Classic was February 19-25. Not sure when TDK found time to swing by.

Someone ordered a chocolate chip bagel.  This is a misunderstanding of bagels.  Don’t order that.

The school robocalled my house at 7am to tell me there is an SAT Prep corse this week.  Don’t do that.

Full boat of youth soccer in the rain today, including a game by the time you’re reading this.  I’ma actually eating by bagel in the car and hot spotting my phone to bring you this excellent content.

Defesive guru Mike Piazza is in camp to work with the catchers.

I don’t see that WOR posted their radio schedule anywhere and I sure as heck didn’t get a press release, so since they must want to keep their broadcasts a secret I will honor that.

I’m told the MLB App still has the loud commercials issue.  I did not renew for this very reason and am tired of discussing it.  It’s the 5th year of this.  I moved on and found a happy life without listening to Mets games.

SLACKISH REACTION:  The #MickeyMafia is strong.  I saw all sorts of “Mickey Callaway gets his first win!” posts and tweets.  Um guys, it’s a practice game and if we’re giving Mickey credit for the Braves C-Team walking the park, well you seriously might as well let me manage the team.  I like Mickey and there’s a lot to like here but the Mickey Hype needs to back off – this is the sort of hype that makes bloggers dig in on Next Seavers until they are sub .500 pitchers with corny socks.

The big news was Dom Smith was late.  But let’s break this down.  First we heard Dom was out of the lineup for no particular reason.  The media reported that.  I called hogwash on twitter.  We were supposed to believe that Mickey just woke up and decided, you know what I don’t want to play Dom today because Reasons.  Of course that was nonsense.

Then we found out Dom was late.  So good on the manager not playing him and very bad on Dom being late.  Now he starts his spring in a massive hold and might as well get his 51’s cap ready.

The Post wants you to like this I guess.   Did they photoshop my body onto Mick?  He looks kinda frumpy here.

NOT LINKING:  Zack Wheeler impresses in Mets opener!  Yeah?  1 inning, a hit and 2Ks?  Its nice but Impresses?

SHOCKING BOYCOTT UPDATE:

In case you missed it, the Mets wore MSD (Florida High School) caps.

Here are the Mets in MSD (Florida High School) Caps

ICYMI Dom Smith was scratched.  The initial story was there was no reason – as if Mickey woke today and decided to change the lineup – then the truth came out and we learned that Dom was late for a team meeting.  Dom, step it up.

Here are the Mets in the MSD Caps.

Mets call Darren, step up their t-shirt game

I was like whoa the Mets stepped up their t-shirt game, then I actually read the tweet….yep…Darren.
