Should the Mets move the retired numbers away from the pesky humans?

Hi Shannon-
Long time reader first time e-mailer (ha) but I have an issue with the new party area. I was at the game tonight and I don’t think it is right that the retired numbers are partially blocked by people in the area. Throughout the game most numbers (especially Seaver’s) were blocked by fans. Don’t you think they should be moved to a clearer (i.e. more respectable) location? I know I am nitpicking, but just a thought.

Thanks,

John C

This hadn’t crossed my mind at all, and I think they are fine where they are. In fact I liked being able to touch them. If you want to see how not to display your retired numbers then head up to Fake Replica Yankee Stadium and check out the awful centerfield area.

The Mets may want to consider making the colors on the retired numbers consistent with the teams branding and color scheme.

And move the garbage can. If Seaver sees that he’ll round up Sandy and the other Marines and storm someone’s office.

The Mets and Chippergate

WFAN producer Al Dukes talked to a Mets official this morning who told him the team intends to honor the retirement of Braves OF Chipper Jones, according to this report on WFAN.com.

“It was a conversation that went like this,” Dukes explained on air, “‘Will we acknowledge Chipper Jones’ career? Yes we will.’”

This is red-hot on twitter right now, with your old buddy @metspolice upsetting a few folks.

I don’t want to honor Chipper. if fans choose to give a respectful clap fine. A video montage or something, hell no.

Now what does “will acknowledge” mean? Who knows. But it’s an off-day and everyone is bored so a made up controversy it is!

We’ll know it’s his last game. We can chant Larry.

Colactus’ Mets uniform plan

While I didn’t hear it myself a few folks reported this in. Here’s Kevin:

Hi Shannon,

Did you happen to hear what Howie Rose said today on the air?

Seems as if Terry Collins told him:

— Snow whites at home day games

— Pinstripes all other home games.

Thought I’d let you know in case you didn’t catch that.

Hope all’s well bro.

I’m fine with it. I don’t have much else to say.

I do think that it’s a fair nitpick that if yesterday was the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the first game then pins would have made more sense.

I’m still a tad fearful of what could happen on the road.
