Movember 25th: Mets Mustache of the Day

His ‘stache may be gone now, but the smile and friendly demeanor never disappeared.

Movember is winding down and we are very close to reaching our pledge goal for the month.  If you are enjoying this series won’t you please consider a donation to Mets Bloggers For A Cure.  The money raised during Movember goes towards men’s health initiatives, particularly prostate cancer research.  We appreciate anything you can pledge – $20, $10, even $5 – every little bit counts.

Must read of the day: Again, I Choose The Mets

Here’s a longer than usual excerpt to get you roped into the Must Read of the Day.  A good argument from Mark Healey.  I obviously don’t agree, but I enjoy the respectful discussion.  Be sure to read Again, I Choose The Mets.

MetsPolice.com is easily one of my favorite sites on the internet, and its owner, Shannon Shark, is a tremendous fellow. Howard Megdal is one of the most intelligent, thoughtful and clever writers I have had the pleasure of working with. Steve Keane is a tenacious Mets fan who blogs from his heart and isn’t afraid to mix it up with anyone.

But these three great Mets fans – and others who I have chatted with on Twitter and Facebook — are not only buying tickets to see the Mets in 2012,  they don’t seem to agree with my stance on not doing so.

I don’t understand any of them. I love ‘em, but don’t understand them at all.

I understand their happiness with the Mets’ decision to celebrate their 50th anniversaty by finally “ditching the black”. I comprehend their joy at the return of Banner Day. I can also relate to their satisfaction and feelings of validation with the growing inclusion of the blogging community by the organization.

My contention with these fine people comes down to their unwillingness to understand why I believe that to continue to attend games at Citi Field while the Wilpon / Katz ownership group remains in possession of the club is counterproductive.

Again, I Choose The Mets.

There’s much more to the article as Mark lays out his case.  Must read: Again, I Choose The Mets.

My Mets Blue Friday Haul

I woke up early today to grab the 35% off savings at Citi Field’s Mets Team Store. I got there about 7:45 am, pulled into the parking lot and realized that I left my wallet back at home. Man, I guess the food coma was still affecting me from yesterday. I leave the parking lot run back home and return to Citi Field at 8:10. The parking lot had a about 10 cars in it at that time.

Walking into the store the 50th anniversary display was set up as soon as you walked in. t-shirts, windbreakers, and the hats were there. Behind it was that was the NEW Authentic Jerseys. Through out the store were 50th anniversary patches, shot glasses, pillows ,throw blankets, and I also found a blue Batting Practice style jersey. I have no idea if it is or isn’t the “ONE” that the Mets were talking about adding to the jersey rotation next season. SEE ABOVE STICKY POST FOR MORE ON THIS JERSEY.

I grabbed one for me and one for Shannon.

Original price: 99.99

-35% off= 64.99

Former NY Mets outfielder Lenny Dykstra holds first sit-down interview since plea in grand theft auto case – NY Daily News

Hopefully Mr. Dykstra can change his life for the better.

“I really for the first time understand humility,” he said Thursday while smoking a cigarette on the patio of his private bungalow at The Hills rehab center. “It’s not everybody else’s fault. It’s not a coincidence that I’m here. It happened because I was using drugs and alcohol. It was a reality check.”

Mets Police Holiday Shopping Guide: Mets gifts under $20!

Well you know all about the jerseys but here’s some other things you may want to consider for your holiday gift giving.

First we have the book of the year.  If you are going to buy a book about the first 50 years of the franchise buy this one. Other 50th anniversary books are The Amazins: Celebrating 50 Years of New York Mets History and The Mets: A 50th Anniversary Celebration but the Illustrated History is far and away my choice.

Next, we have the greatest Mets book of them all, the wonderful Faith and Fear in Flushing. I’d love to figure out how I could make a book out of this nonsense from my blog. Maybe someday.

Next we have the MLB New York Mets Comfy Throw, Officially MLB Licensed Blanket with Sleeves by Northwest “Smoke Design”

Stocking stuffers? Well the kids like these sorts of things.

This would look great on my desk. Maybe my cousin will get me this for Christmas.

Have you noticed the color scheme of all these offerings?

For your tree…

You’ll never go wrong with the official cap of The Mets Police

There’s always a Man Up And Play Better t-shirt as an option.

And of course, who wouldn’t want a black-less Mets jersey this holiday season?  Get a customizable one. You can use the Modell’s link here, the MLB Shop at the bottom of the page or maybe even head over to Citi Field for Blue Friday.  I already have TWO 2012 jerseys and am waiting for road-customizables to become available so I can buy a third.

20% off at Modells.com 11/24-11/27

Customized jerseys (replica) are $99.99 and take off 20% thru 11/27.
