Plaid uniforms in 2012?

Wow, I can’t believe it’s the first of April already!  Who is ready for some baseball?

Shannon, I know you’ve been looking forward to what the uniforms might look like in 2012.  I work in the uniform industry and these prototypes came across my desk for league approval.  I bet you’ll like the retro look.   I love the blog, keep up the good work.

Wow, plaid uniforms!  I don’t know what to say.  You could’ve fooled me, I didn’t think that they’d go in this direction – I thought for sure we’d see more of the same.  At least they aren’t black and I like the darker blue, especially on the home uni in the middle (and I prefer pins over plaid).  I’m not sure what else to say – in some ways it looks like some hacky photoshop.

I gotta get one of these with a 4 1 on the back.

Anyway, April is here…I am ready for Opening Day.

Mets Fan Optimism in the Film World

I don’t make any secret that I work in the film business. And it seems to me that there a tons and I mean tons of Mets fans that work with me. I think I have figured out why. Alot of people think it is glamourous to work in tv or film, but not so much. There are long grueling hours, working in intense heat, freezing temps, snow, rain, lifting heavy cables, lights, set pieces, yadda yadda. At the end of the day though we all basically enjoy what we do and wouldn’t trade it in for any other profession.

I think thats why Mets fans are a plenty in that world. We as Mets fans, stick with the team no matter how good or bad they are. All the stuff that has been going on with the Mets organization might beat us down a little but we keep coming back because no matter what, we wouldn’t trade our team in for any other baseball team.

After saying all of that, I have been talking to a lot of my fellow Mets fans on the crew on the film that I have been working on. We can talk for a while because there is a lot of downtime between setting up shots. There  seems to be  a lot of cautious optimism. Most think the Mets are going to have a decent year. They think that the Mets are going to play well and play hard. They think that the team is going to make you want to root for them. The Mets will be that scrappy boxer that might know he is going to lose a round but he is going to keep getting back up no matter what. He is going to give it his all. Just like they think the Mets will.

Other Mets fans on the job I have talked to fall into another category. They think the Mets might surprise people and be better then what some think. They tell me that they feel the Mets might just miss out on the Wild Card and make for a fun and exciting season. I fall into I just want the Mets to do well, don’t embarrass themselves on the field, and just to show they have heart. I will be happy then.

Hey, maybe its because we deal in the industry of making make believe feel like reality in the film world. But right now a lot of us are believing in the Mets having  a nice respectable  and maybe even a winning season.

Sparks’ ‘Silver Fox’ Mets cap

This just arrived at my house. It’s the “Silver Fox” 3930 from New Era. I’d had my eye on it for a while and finally bought in celebration of Oliver Perez’s release (totally not kidding about that). It’s pretty sweet paired up with any of my ’88-’93 road jerseys (speaking of which, I still owe you that “what’s in my closet” post–I haven’t forgotten). A couple of things on this one:

1) I still say if there has to be a road cap, this is what it should look like or very very similar.

2) Even though the team’s never played a game in this cap, I bought it anyway. Amazing, right?

3) Note the blue logo on the back. This is one item I most definitely would not have purchased if they’d blacked it up in any way.
