Post: Mets Ticket Renewals Are Slow

Good Joel Sherman in the Post includes this nugget:

A Mets official admitted last night that, as expected, season-ticket renewals have been slow in the wake of the poor finish and slow offseason. “They’re in wait-and-see mode,” the official said

And here’s New York magazine commenting on the Post article and revving up the sass.

Just reviewed tomorrow’s Mets Police must read with my co-hort Dan.  Really good stuff, really positive stuff, not a hatchet job, not an attack, just really good stuff for the Mets and Mets fans.   Do I ever front-sell like this?   Definitely check it out, goes live at 8am tomorrow.

2010 New York Yankees Season Ticket Plans (New Stadium Insider)

For those of you curious about that happens in the Bronx…here’s the ticket plans from the New Stadium Insider. I find the last sentence interesting – Ross talks about how a TV might be more appealing than bad views. That’s with the World Champions….imagine how Mets renewals must be going.

Cold Stove Thursday Morning

Funny morning for me.  I’m actually not sure where to go for the leadoff spot today.   However, we have something really cool planned for tomorrow morning.   Major.

In the meantime, some behind the scenes…I collect a lot of stuff that I hold for a rainy day, and when there isn’t anything going on I play one of those cards.   So I could pull-up one of those (and I actually just moved up one article from tomorrow to later today) but in the winter meetings it just seems lame to lead-off with a “hey I found this Lee Mazzilli Kellogg’s Card” on ebay.  $50

I really thought by now I’d be weighing in on the new Mets players.  Maybe today will be the day.   There’s plenty of other places that handle hot stove way better than the MP ever could (I’m sure you’re noticing Metsblog has been rocking it out, and by the way I love their new look).

So let me leave you with this…today we’ll have our normal course of events, the usual mix of “stuff”, uniforms and caps, links, “5 Questions” etc….but tomorrow is a don’t miss.

New Batting Practice Caps In 2010

MLB is changing up the design of the batting practice caps once again in 2010.  I haven’t seen a Mets version yet, but I read about this Reds version here.

Here is a Twins version.  Notice it says “home.”

I wonder if the Mets version will blue, black, orange or what.

Albert Pujols, Derek Jeter lead MLB All-Decade team – 2000s: The Decade in Sports – SI.com

Albert Pujols, Derek Jeter lead MLB All-Decade team – 2000s: The Decade in Sports – SI.com

If I told you three of the best players of the decade would all be Mets at the same time you’d be pretty excited right? That team would make the playoffs wouldn’t it? What if you could have a team with David Wright, Jose Reyes and three of the best 16 players of the 2000’s? That team would win right?
Now as usual I’m being sarcastic, but two of the best players from the ’00s are still on the team, and Wright and Reyes are there…so you shouldn’t be that less excited. Yes I hated 2009 as much as anyone, yes it drives me nuts that the Mets don’t add a player whether it is Lackey now or Manny a year ago (even with that 50 game suspension, coulda used him around July 1st) – but it wouldn’t be shocking if the 2010 Mets are actually good. Unfortunately, it won’t be shocking if they finish 5th.
There is a core here, the questions are (a) is it enough, (b) is the chemistry wrong for whatever reason (more in a second) and (c) is the manager capable of maximizing their abilities.
As for chemistry – some think it is overrated. Ask yourself, who was a better player on paper: Jefferies or Backman? Kent or Backman? Who would you rather have on your team?
