The Mets Are 5 Games Out

The Mets are 5 games out.

You can start writing me now with “it’s early” which it is, and “it’s just the Marlins” which it is.

Those pesky Marlins which nobody takes seriously are 11 and 1, scored 4 in the 9th to win their seventh straight and have won two World Series since 1987 which is two more than the Mets.

It gets late early, which we learned from Bobby Valentine, and while there’s nothing wrong with this team it just isn’t winning games.

5 out on April 19th.   That’s a lot.

Empty Seats Surprising? Mets and Yankees not selling out

This was a nice pleasant Sunday afternoon.  The Mets and Yankees both played home games in their new stadiums.

The announced (aka paid) attendance at both parks?

The Yankees announced 43,068 in a stadium that seats 51,800. (capacity of 52,235 with the yet to be marketed standing room.)

In Flushing, the Mets drew 36,124 to their building. The Mets website lists Citi Field as having a 45,000 capacity including standing room.  They have yet to sell standing room seats, so the more accurate number for today would be more like 42,000.

Is it the economy?  The disappointing 2008 results for both teams?   Overpriced seats?

We’ll see what happens when school lets out.

NY Sports Examiner: Mets strand lots in scoring position, lose to Brewers 4-2

The good news  The Mets wore blue hats and white pinstriped uniforms.

The bad news?   Read below.

NY Sports Examiner: Mets strand lots in scoring position, lose to Brewers 4-2

This was a typical 2009 Mets loss.
There was really nothing wrong with it, they just didn’t win.
Emergency starter Nelson Fugueroa?  6 innings of 3 run ball.
Reyes and Murphy were 3 for 5.    Beltran was 2 for 3.  Even call-up catcher Santos had a double and a triple.
The bullpen?  3 innings, 1 run.
Not bad.  Just like the 2009 Mets.
10 runners left on base.   That’s bad.  2 for 13 with runners in scoring position?  That’s bad.
Curious is an attendance of only 36,124.   That seems low for a brand new ballpark on a not bad Sunday afternoon.

Most Popular On Mets Police (April 19 Edition)

All I can say is wow.   My fellow Mets Policemen and I are truly honored that so many have visited metspolice.com over the last week.  Thank you thank you thank you, and it’s been great being able to create a home for people who (a) want the Mets to honor the Mets, (b) hate obstructed views and (c) hate the black uniforms.

Every Sunday I recap the most popular articles on the site, and mix in a few things that I think went underloved.  Obstructed views at Citi Field far and away dominates, and I’ll share those links at the end.   First, a few other stories of note:

Howie Rose ripped the black uniforms on the air Saturday.

Mike Vaccaro ripped the Mets for not having enough Mets stuff at the new place.

In the Bronx, so far nobody disagrees with my review that Yankee Stadium is like The Phantom Menace.   Some more not-great reviews:  here  or here or here.

New Stadium Insider tells you what you need to know about your first trip to the Bronx.

Does the new Yankee Stadium have a design flaw?   What about all those empty seats?

Honestly, I thought more people should have read what Babe Ruth’s family has to say about the new Yankee Stadium.  Where’s the statue of the Babe?

I also enjoy my New York Giants hoax story but I guess nobody else does.

Why did Piazza leave early?   Did he not want to talk about the Forbidden Subject?

Finally, we’ve updated the collection of Citi Field pictures (including obstructed views) which contains links to many of the most popular articles including these:
