How To "Mets Up" Citi Field By Borrowing Ideas From Yankee Stadium

Some more photos from my trip to Yankee Stadium on Saturday.   I think the photos speak for themselves as for ideas the Mets could copy to make Citi Field seem more Mets Field than like a ballpark the Mariners could move into next weekend.

These first two pictures are the “holograms” that I heard of on my first visit.  Depending on your angle, they could look like this…

..or like this.

Regardless, the Mets could learn from the Yankees and put up some pictures of their more popular former players.

I’m not going to tell the Wilpons who these players are any more unless they start paying me a consultants fee.

Another way to decorate walls is like this.   This is over by the Yankees Museum (imagine that, a room that honors the team that plays in the stadium).

I like this baseball card design.   To the left of Yogi is Gehrig, and to his left Ruth.   The person cut off on the right is Mattingly.

You’ll find this right by the museum.

This next photo is taken from across the River Avenue in the “old” garage, which is why its obstructed by a screen.  I mean its not obstructed, it’s part of the design of the lot, but I digress.

On the outside of Yankee Stadium they have photos of the current players.  I didn’t notice until I was leaving.

This next picture shows the entrance to something called a museum.   There you can honor the great players and moments from the team’s history.

Not the history of a team that bolted town fifty years ago, but the actual team you root for.  Neat idea!

The Yankees have placed Thurman Munson’s locker in that museum.  What fools, don’t they know how much artifacts go for in auctions?!

Empty Seats, Skyboxes and Audi Club At Yankee Stadium On Saturday

Now we all know that nobody wants to pay $1000 to sit behind home plate at Yankee Stadium on a Saturday afternoon.

Over at Flushing our old friend David Howard said, “But just because a seat is not occupied doesn’t mean that they’re not there or the seat is not sold.

He may be right.  The people could be up getting food (and blowing off the waitress service)

Probably everybody in this Yankee Stadium skybox got up at the same time to grab some chicken fingers…..

And here is the very empty

AUDI YANKEES CLUB

The Audi Yankees Club is a membership club located on the H&R Block Suite Level. The club features a cocktail bar and a dining lounge and offers sweeping views of Yankee Stadium from left field. The experience is highlighted by performance-cooking stations, a dessert station and full cocktail service. Membership is available on an annual basis. For more information, please click hereIndividual-game tickets are also available.

I guess everyone was at the dessert station except the 11 people we counted.

If you think demand for Yankee tickets isn’t way down, please jump on Stubhub and buy my Sox tickets for Tuesday night.  I can’t believe they are still sitting there, and all I want is to break even.  Last year Sox tickets funding my 15 game pack.

Solutions For Citi Field’s Obstructed View Problems By Learning From Yankee Stadium (Photos)

I went to Yankee Stadium on Saturday, camera in hand, and I think that I have figured out some solutions for the obstructed views in the Promenade at Citi Field.

I previously thought that the design of the staircases at Citi would make it impossible to fix the views without tearing off the top deck.  I now think there’s a way to fix it.   It won’t be cheap, it won’t please the Wilpons, I’m not architect, but here’s a suggestion.

Most of the obstructed views are caused by the placement of the landing.  The landing is in front of the seats at an angle that causes the railing to jut out in front of people.

This next shot is from Grandstand 406 (Grandstand is Yankee for Promenade).   It is not my best photo, and I wish I had taken it further to the right, but see that railing…that’s the landing at Yankee.  Even with the first row, not in front.

I think what the Mets need to do with the Promenade is best represented here with this view of the field level at Yankee Stadium.

The Mets need to rip out the first three to five rows of the entire Promenade and make that a walkway.   See how deep the one is at Yankee?  Nobody is being blocked.   If the Mets take the seats out, they can eliminate some of the immediate turning aspects of the landing (you would just walk up some stairs to a walkway), and thus get rid of some of the plexiglass.

This photo is also from 406 at Yankee.   While there is plexiglass, there isn’t much of it, and the people were able to sit in their seats without leaning forward.

While I haven’t experienced it first hand, I am hearing complaints about the ribbon blocking people at Citi Field…..

…as you can see in this photo, the Yankees figured out how to do a scoreboard ribbon and safety railing without making people lean forward in their seats.

I wasn’t too impressed with Yankee Stadium on my first visit, but as I discover more flaws in Flushing, I wonder who will have the last laugh.

Come back tomorrow morning for some suggestions on how they can “Mets Up” Citi Field by borrowing some ideas from the Bronx.

Daddy why is nobody in the front row at Yankee stadium?

Mets Police Junior must be a natural blogger.

We are at Yankee stadium and he just asked nobody is sitting in the
first row. I explained how it costs 50 wii games to sit there.

Lots of empty seats, empty skyboxes and the 99pct empty Audi Club.

I also see how to solve Citi’s Promenade level problems with an
example from Yankee.

Be sure to check back tomorrow for pics. Will start posting tonight.

Your Yankee Stadium Wind Forecast (Accuweather)

Accuweather rocks.  I love that they are publishing these:

The New York Yankees return to their new stadium this week, and with it, anticipation about the amount of fly balls that will cross the right field wall.

Winds on Thursday should not be an issue. While winds will pick up on Friday, they will be from the south and southwest, not the same direction as the games earlier in the season with the Cleveland, Indians. However, this coming Saturday and Sunday, winds will be from the west. How strong the winds will be have yet to be determined.
