Pete Alonso Trade Watch Watch: are we not trading Pete because Uncle Steve needs to be loved not win?

Interesting take by Jon Heyman in the Post..

… they almost surely aren’t trading Alonso either.

At this point, with Alonso having an OPS below .700 over the past couple months, they probably couldn’t get the haul you’d think for him, anyway. And then, how do you replace his 40-plus homers next year? The Mets don’t hit enough homers as it is.

More vitally, Cohen definitely did not spend $2.4 billion on this team to be booed in his hometown. So forget trading Alonso.

Jon – don’t worry about replacing the 40 homers.  A live body Major League first baseman will replace 25  of them, so you’re really stressing over 15 home runs over the course of 6 months.  And you can finish 4th without those home runs.  So your point is silly.

But the last part is worrisome – if we are not trading Pete because Steve needs to be loved more than he needs to win – well, we have a problem with ownership.   Steve, google “Nomar Garciaparra” and be BOLD.   This isn’t working.  You blew it when you didn’t sign Freddie Freeman….don;t double down worrying about 2 HRs a month out of a guy that really isn’t that good at baseball.

I’ve been shouted down for years about this, but more and more people are seeing it.  Pete is NEVER going to match his rookie year.  Smart GMs trade at peak value.  You have a diminishing asset here Steve….that you must understand, right?  Be bold.

You can find a body Steve.  Here’s one.  Who is Spencer Steer?  I don’t know, but he’s easily a replacement for Pete Alonso.

Do it.  While we still have time.

Pete Alonso Trade Watch Watch: Cowardly Mets reportedly too stupid to trade Pete Alonso

Even the HRD pitcher knows you can get Pete out by throwing low and away.

Yahoo reports…

And while the biggest haul would come from moving Pete Alonso, the Mets do not plan to engage other clubs about the superstar first baseman.

Alonso is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2024 season, and as one league source put it, “if they don’t feel like they are going to sign him, the offseason is a better time to talk about trades, because more teams would be involved.”

Long term followers of this blog know the Mets shoudl have traded Pete a long time ago at peak value, and that his value is only diminishing by the day.  They should have signed Freddie Freeman (I find MVPs are good to have on a team) but some of you are like OOOOOOO HOME RUNS IN BUNCHES and that seemingly makes Uncle Steve scared to risk his popularity.

So, hold on to Pete.  Watch another decade slip away.  Enjoy seeing the words IKE and DAVIS show up in articles again.  Don’t trade Pete….he might hit some home runs and stuff.

Anyway, when the Wilpons finally sell the team and we have a cool owner with an open wallet, he won’t be stupid enough to leave in charge. a man who once gave Matt Harvey $11,000,000 to pitch for Anaheim.  Nobody is that stupid.

Black on Black bad font Mets jersey

There’s so much wrong here, but at least you can’t see the netting.

As a reminder, on the ball logo Mets looks like that, with the M not becoming the start of the e (think about how you yourself would write Mets in cursive)

But on a jersey it should look like this  Well not with the long tail e…but you get the idea…note how the M sweeps cleanly into the e.
