Mets sign someone named Omar Narváez who apparently was an All-Star* on Milwaukee without me noticing

*The Mets press release is glossing over the 2021 part.  He was a 2021 All Star. I mean they could sign “MVP Willie Mays” if we’re just going to ignore the year part.  The Mets did not share any assets like a PHOTO with their press release.

What Omar could look like in a Mets uniform.

METS SIGN (2021) ALL-STAR CATCHER OMAR NARVÁEZ

FLUSHING, N.Y., December 22, 2022 – The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed catcher Omar Narváez to a one-year contract with a player option for 2024.

Narváez, 30, spent the last three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers. The left-handed hitter owns a career mark .268/.345/.406 hitter against right-handers. Narváez hit a career-high 22 homers and had a career-high .813 OPS for the Mariners in 2019.

“We are excited to bring Omar to New York,” said Mets General Manager Billy Eppler. “Omar has contact ability and solid approach at the plate, and his left-handed bat fits our roster well. Additionally, the defensive skill and experience he brings behind the plate will be great additions for the Mets and our pitching staff.”

The 5-11, 240-pounder was an All-Star in 2021, finishing the year with a .266/.342/.402 slashline with 11 home runs and 49 RBI in 123 games. Narváez batted .206/.292/.305 in 84 games last season, compiling 21 runs, 12 doubles, one triple, four home runs, 23 RBI and 29 walks. According to Baseball Savant he ranked seventh in the majors last year in framing pitches.

Over his seven-year major league career, he has hit .258/.343/.386 with 212 runs, 76 doubles, two triples, 51 home runs, 191 RBI, 223 walks and a .728 OPS in 600 career games with the White Sox, Mariners and Brewers.

The Venezuelan native was originally signed as a non-drafted free agent by the White Sox.

Jacob deGrom’s spin management team remembers to thank Mets fans in NY Post Ad

Well, congrats to Jacob deGrom’s spin team.  Mets Police Mom just said to me “He’s a class act” to which I said, “Yeah, he’s a class act three weeks later and after Michael Kay called him out on it.”   Well, better late than never, which seemed to be deGrom’s motto the last few seasons anyway.    By the way, which one of you idiots let him throw 100mph in the Spring?

Jason deGrom IS committed to winning.  That’s why he’s in Texas.

Here’s the ad.

Which still isn’t as much fun as the Apology Letter which I have framed in my office (really).

Mets trade James McCann for nobody

This is a real thing!

I am hoping we can trade Lindor (you know , the guy that thumbs downed Mets fans but you like him now because he had a good season even though he clearly doesn’t like YOU) – trade Lindor for nobody, or maybe include him in the Ohtani deal.  Correa can play SS.  When Steve delivers you Ohtani you won’t miss Lindor, believe me.

Anyway, McCann for “I dunno, give us someone this summer when the intern finds the paperwork and asks if we need to do anything about it” is a fascinating deal.

McCann will hit 25 HRs in Baltimore.

UPDATE: I am told that through the magic of accounting and tax stuff, this somehow saves the Mets $8,000,000.   So I guess everyone wins here?  Except whatever needed that tax money.  There goes the federal funding to fix the interstates.  Oh well.

METS TRADE CATCHER JAMES McCANN

FLUSHING, N.Y., December 21, 2022 – The New York Mets announced today that the club has traded catcher James McCann and cash considerations to the Baltimore Orioles in exchange for a player to be named later.

McCann was signed to a four-year contract prior to the 2021 season. In his two-year stint with the Mets, he hit .220/.282/.328 with 13 home runs and 64 RBI in 182 games with the club.

Correa Signing Vaults Mets to 106 Wins In Strat-O-Matic Simulation

My friends at Strat-o-matic sent this over!

Correa Signing Vaults Mets to 106 Wins In Strat-O-Matic Simulation

With the reported signing of Carlos Correa overnight, the Mets have added another big-name piece to try to improve on their 101-win season.

Just how many more games will these off-season moves mean? Strat-O-Matic, the leader in sports simulations, ran the 2023 season with current projected rosters this morning, and found the Mets gaining five wins to 106, the most in baseball. The simulation has them winning the East division by 14 games over Philadelphia (92-70) and 19 over Atlanta (87-75).

The total would be the second most wins in franchise history after the 108 victories by the 1986 club.

….
Unfortunately MY sim has them winning the same 106 wins, but some idiot expanded the baseball playoffs, and the Mets get eliminated by the 87 win Braves who go on to win the World Series.   Sigh.

Mets somehow get Carlos Correa for a 12 year deal

“What the heck’s the difference? If you’re going to make the move make the move,”

Those are the words attributed to Steve Cohen.

The Mets have signed Carlos Correa to a 12 year deal for $315,000,000!!

Correa had been scheduled for a Giants Press Conference which was canceled over concerns about the physical and then this happened.  The Post has details.

Steve is now WAAYYYYY over the luxury tax and doesn’t care.  I am hoping he doesn’t care to the point that he just eats Lindor’s contract for booing Mets fans.

I don’t know how this sport is going to survive all these decade long contracts, but that’s the future’s problem.  If we can get a Mets World Series while nicely dressed next summer I will be long gone before the bill comes due.

Steve also said, ““I hope the fans show up.” – Steve, I appreciate what you’re trying to do here, but you came along too late.  What’s this team going to do, win 101 games?  Baseball broke the sport with expanded playoffs.  Plus it’s boring. I jumped up and down about things for the entire 2010s and nobody cared – so hey enjoy your fantasy baseball team, but I’m not planning on attending.

Meanwhile, in Texas, Jacob deGrom is happy that the Rangers are committed to winning.

Media Goon is on his way to Modell’s to get a Correa jersey.

And a reminder, the Shea Stadium site is PARKLAND not land to build a casino on.  Do whatever you want on the east side of 126th, but not on the west side which is PARKLAND.  Stay focused everyone.
