Spies: QBC guys planning a Howie Rose event on July 29

J.J. Binks will do 20 games with Howie this summer as the Mets continue to roll random people in as subs.

According to this link, the Queens Baseball Convention Organizer Guys are planning…

lunch with on July 29th at Katch Astoria. It is going to be from 1pm to 3pm. Will include an hour lunch, panel, and signing.

I will keep an eye on this and share a link with you when it exists, but if you ever wanted an opportunity to meet Howie and maybe ask him, “Bro, when you were saying the electricity at a deGrom game was right there with Peak Gooden, you know you sounded crazy right? You can now admit that was an insane thing to say, right?”  Let me know what he says.

…

LOL look what I asked the MetsPoliceBot to generate:

… here’s an inning of Mets play-by-play as voiced by Howie Rose and his co-host Jar-Jar Binks:

Howie Rose: “Welcome back, Mets fans! We’re here at Citi Field for another exciting game against the Phillies. It’s the bottom of the third inning, and the Mets are up to bat. Leading off for the Mets is Brandon Nimmo, who’s been having a great season so far.”

Jar-Jar Binks: “Yousa right, Howie! Nimmo been da bombad player dis year! Mesa so excited to watch him hit!”

Howie Rose: “Nimmo steps up to the plate, and he’s ready to go. The pitcher winds up and throws…and Nimmo connects! That ball is going, going, gone! It’s a home run for Nimmo, and the Mets take the lead!”

Jar-Jar Binks: “Whoa! Did yousa see dat, Howie? Nimmo hit dat ball harder den a pod-racer on da Boonta Eve Classic!”

Howie Rose: “That’s right, Jar-Jar! Nimmo is on fire today. And now up to bat is Pete Alonso, who’s also been having a great season. The Phillies are bringing in a new pitcher, hoping to slow down the Mets’ momentum.”

Jar-Jar Binks: “Uh-oh, dis pitcher better watch out! Alonso gonna hit dat ball so far, he gonna need a Gungan submarine to find it!”

Howie Rose: “Alonso takes a few practice swings, and he’s ready to face the new pitcher. The pitcher winds up and throws…and Alonso swings! That ball is high, deep, and…it’s outta here! Another home run for the Mets, and Alonso has done it again!”

Jar-Jar Binks: “Wahoo! Dis Mets team is so bombad, Howie! Mesa thinkin’ dey gonna win da World Series dis year for sure!”

Howie Rose: “It’s still early in the season, Jar-Jar, but the Mets are certainly off to a great start. And with players like Nimmo and Alonso leading the way, anything is possible. We’ll be back after this commercial break with more Mets baseball action.”

Uni Watch asks the right questions about the Mets Uniform Advertisement

While everyone else rolls over and just goes with the flow, Paul Lukas has asked the right questions – especially this first one…

  • If Cohen didn’t like the initial ad design, why did it end up on the uniforms to begin with? I mean, he presumably signed off on the original design, right?

  • More specifically, if he wanted the ad to be rendered in Mets colors, why didn’t he insist on that in the first place? If he wanted the ad to be smaller, without all that extra space, why didn’t he insist on that in the first place? Was he involved in the initial process or wasn’t he?

  • Was the initial ad patch a last-minute rush job that they scrambled to come up with in time for the home opener without actually thinking about the design? (via Uni Watch)

Amen.  I can’t imagine an ad made it to the uniform with Steve approving it.  Also, let’s keep in mind that the advertiser has a wing named after Mrs. Cohen….and Steve and the Mrs. have given the hospital $75,000,000.    So if you think some random Mets exec just slapped that on a uniform and Steve found out about it in the second inning, you might be crazy.

Here’s the thing I can’t understand…and maybe it’s Baseball Accounting.

At one point Steve had an extra $75,000,000 and gave it to the hospital.  Nice.

How much are the Mets getting for the ad?  Is it a million dollars?  A little weird that Steve just have kept the Mets ad-free for 75 years and not paid for a hospital wing?  (To be fair, this notion dumbs down the part where there’s a hospital wing.)

Maybe the hospital is paying ten million a year to the Mets?  Couldn’t Steve have kept the Mets ad-free for the rest of the decade?

It’s just confusing me that A gives B $75M but now B is giving Sort-of-A some amount of money for a patch….that to me seems like an amount of money that can’t possibly matter to Sort-of-A.

Mets become T-Shirt Enthusiasts with “Sweat and Rosin” design. Buck won’t police it. Will Mets sit 500 feet from home?

The Mets arrived back at Citi Field on Tuesday after a long road trip and found at their lockers blue shirts that read, “Sweat and Rosin,” across the front.

..

Manager Buck Showalter said he wasn’t sure who brought them in because he’s not in the “T-shirt policing business.” (via NY Post)

OK Buck, well I am in the Mets policing business.

So, maybe it’s just me, but it seems odd to me that a baseball umpire would just make something up.  Also, it’s a coincidence an  umpire would make something up a stadium where a player once played.  It’s as if someone with the other team knew something and tipped someone off.  But I can find a conspiracy in anything.

“I faced the Dodgers; I know those guys,” Scherzer said of the team he pitched for in 2021. “I told them, ‘Hey, this is what I did.’ They understood. They know me. I got my reputation in the game. The players understand.” (via NY Times)

I am not sure what Max meant by any of that.

I was unable to find any images of the t-shirt, but now that the Mets are t-shirt enthusiasts, perhaps they will start watching games from 500 feet away, as many t-shirt enthusiasts do.

We have already seen the Mets run out of their own stadium by the Padres, so they will fit right in, but to be fair it was cold, and the buzz was off once the Braves won the division…although it did turn out that the Mets did not have to work the next day.

Mets Queens jacket design starts off nice before being over-engineered into mess

This could have been something.

When I travel the world I often will say I am from Queens rather than from New York City.

The front of this jacket – white with Queens on it – is a good start.  Add on a Mets logo…ok.

Blue sleeves…ok

Orange on the shoulders – too much

Orange on the back….way too much

Three logos on the back…wayyyyy too much

One of those logos is the swoosh logo? Why that???

If Matt Harvey chugged beverages at a Rangers hockey game…

I guess playing Sunday Night Baseball and flying charter isn’t that big of a deal if you can hang out at a hockey game drinking who knows what, instead of working out and watching game films to prepare for a big divisional game

This stuff wouldn’t happen if Wally Backman were the manager.
