Mike Piazza rallies around Mookie Wilson’s catering business

Famous Soccer Team owner Mike Piazza

What’s interesting to me about this story is that the Post picked up the catering business “news” – but a quick Google shows that the Daily News Remnant had the story in September – but the DN has fallen so far I guess nobody at all noticed. And then since the Post had it, the guys at the Amazing Apple Insiderized Mets Blog Report had to regurgitate it. I ignored it because I hate “And Us Also” content (formerly knows as Me Too content before Me Too came to mean something else) – and am only bringing it up today because I like goofing on Donald Trump Rally attendee Mike Piazza.

But hey Mike Piazza,  during the rule of America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani, helped heal the city with a home run that one time so it’s all good.

Anyway, Mookie Wilson is a caterer.

Who doesn’t want a black Mike Hampton shirsey?

It’s not quite the excitement of the years the Mets had the new ivory jersey or the new cream jersey or the blue jersey or the proper jerseys came back, but hey who wouldn’t want a Black Mike Hampton Shirsey,

I think the buzz is totally off this team (and sport).  Even @mediagoon isn’t at the store this morning.

METS SIGN LHP ZACH MUCKENHIRN AND RHP DENYI REYES

FLUSHING, N.Y., November 23, 2022 – The New York Mets announced today that the club has signed pitchers Zach Muckenhirn and Denyi [DEN-yee] Reyes to minor league contracts with an invitation to major league Spring Training.

Muckenhirn, 27, appeared in 47 games with Triple-A Charlotte in the Chicago White Sox organization last season, going 3-1 with two saves and a 3.11 ERA (19 ER/55.0 IP) with 23 walks and 56 strikeouts. Across six minor league seasons, he is 21-21 with a 3.82 ERA (159 ER/375.0 IP) with 137 walks and 387 strikeouts. He was originally selected by the Baltimore Orioles in 11th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Dakota.

Reyes, 26, made his major league debut as a member of the Baltimore Orioles in 2022. He appeared in three games (one start) with the club, posting a 2.35 ERA (2 ER/7.2 IP) with a walk and three strikeouts. In seven minor league seasons, Reyes owns a 45-28 record with a 3.29 ERA (218 ER/596.1 IP), 89 walks and 526 strikeouts. He was originally signed as a non-drafted minor league free agent by the Boston Red Sox in 2014.

MLB says the Mets totally didn’t collude with the Yankees over Judge

From the New York Post

MLB has notified the MLBPA that the Mets and Yankees didn’t suppress the market for Judge, sources confirmed Tuesday, following an SNY report this month that indicated the Mets wouldn’t pursue the All-Star outfielder out of deference to their crosstown rival. (via NY Post)

Of interest to many fans is that the original SNY article is credited to Andy Martino.  It has been my experience that some people are finding SNY’s web presence to be not as enjoyable as it once was, and also my experience that some Mets fans do not find Andy Martino to be all that reliable.

Anyway, the Mets and Yankees totally didn’t collude. Baseball owners never do such things, except for that pesky time in 1980s.  It is good to see billionaires following all the rules of their particular industry.

Anyway, who better to investigate on behalf of the owners than “MLB” – per the Post’s report, “MLB reviewed communications between the teams in reaching its conclusion there wasn’t collusion” which makes sense as people never speak in person, have phones, or even back-channel messages using others.   Nothing to see here, move along.
