All summer you guys told me I was wrong about weekday baseball being stupid.

WHERE IS EVERYONE?  I was told baseball was doing well.   The Wilpons are gone, why are you boycotting Steve?

#TheseMets choked and got swept by Atlanta (Hashtag Must Die!) but at least we get gimmick subway cars

This whole #TheseMets thing is so corny it makes me want to throw up.  More like DeezMets, right Gen Z?

Now the Mets are wasting money decorating subway cars.  Via AdWeek….

The team is committing to a New York takeover, painting the city orange and blue with OOH advertising, featured throughout several New York subway locations and trains starting today…..

“We want to get back to what the city knows and loves, which is Mets baseball,” New York Mets executive vice president and chief marketing officer Andy Goldberg told Adweek. “New York’s a baseball town. We have a fun and exciting team. It’s about reaching Mets fans and baseball fans, but it’s also about reaching New York.”

(next paragraph says “Number 7 Train Line” – clearly written by a true New Yorker)

As part of the campaign titled “These Mets,” the number 7 train line will feature images of Mets players, the team logo—and even the team’s iconic apple plastered across the exterior and interior of five subway cars, running until Oct. 23. Hudson Yards Station and Grand Central Station will also have Mets advertising that runs through Oct. 23.

The Times Square-Grand Central S shuttle train will have six cars with interior and exterior signage that runs until Oct. 28.

So who to blame for the lameness: Creative agency FCB New York led the manifesto behind the “These Mets” phrase.

Oh but wait, let’s not bury this part…….

The Mets have been ranked in the top 10 in MLB attendance this year. But recently, the team has seen a lackluster home crowd showings from its fans. Since Labor Day, the team has reached over 30,000 in attendance just twice.

The figures are a concern considering the Mets are in the thick of a compelling pennant race—and are on track for one of the best regular seasons in franchise history.

….I thought baseball was thriving?  The Mets were in first place until recently, why aren’t people going to games?

The Mets’ suit said – as if this has never happened before -the recent downturn was partially due to the ebbs and flows of a long season, as well as September being the start of the school year, limiting opportunities for families to attend games.

Riiiiiiiighhht..

By the way, while we are discussing how baseball is thriving.  Did anyone notice the ads on last night’s game?  Hearing aids.  Pans.  The Legxercise Pro.  These are the blue chip advertisers ESPN gets for a national game?   Sheesh.

Cap tip to the Atlanta Braves

You really need to tip your cap to the Braves.  They ran down a 10.5 game lead – and then just knocked off deGrom and Scherzer back to back.  None of that is an easy task….and if I told you that the Mets would have a 10.5 game lead and then start those two against Atlanta in a tight series, you would have felt pretty good about all of it.

Suffice to say, tonight is a huge game – a loss drops Atlanta’s magic number to one – a win ties the division and gives the Mets the season series tiebreaker.

Unfortunately the game is up a pretty exciting Mahomes-Brady game and House of the Dragon, so it’s going to be a struggle to follow ESPN tonight.

Meaningful games in October!  Let’s just hope the Mets don’t have any next weekend.

….

Pete Alonso wondering who could have possibly gotten Chili Davis fired.

By the way, when does this Pete Alonso guy you all rave about do something clutch?
