Ron Washington. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.

Welcome back to a new season of “Will this guy manage the Mets? No.”

In previous seasons I have covered topics such as “Mike Piazza. Will this guy manage the Mets? No.” and “David Wright?  Will this guy manage the Mets? No.”

I’ve covered Wally Backman and Lee Mazzilli and The Usual Suspects in previous posts and you can find all those here.

The goal here is to make fun of all the names that will be floated by other websites and to mock the whole process of random speculation.

Today it is 69 year old Ron Washington.

Ron has an impressive .521 winning percentage and has won two pennants.

Wikipedia says

On September 5, 2014, Washington announced his resignation as manager of the Rangers, citing personal reasons.[14] On September 11, 2014, it was announced by several media outlets that Ron Washington’s resignation may be related to allegations of sexual assault against a reporter

So maybe it’s true, maybe it’s not, but given some of the Mets’ recent front office shenanigans, and the whole Mickey Callway shadow – will Ron Washington manage the Mets?  No.

BE GONE! Loser Mets move on from loser manager who missed 8 team playoff in 2020

Close followers of my stuff know I have absolutely had it with everyone who was part of the 2021 Mets (DON’T BOO YOUR FANS).

Mr. Rojas seems like a lovely man, a nice guy, who maybe could be a good manager for a team that has time to build….but this is New York City and I was 17 when the Mets last won the World Series.  The Wilpons are gone, the new guy supposedly has a lot of funds, and let’s be real – Rojas should have been dismissed a year ago for missing an 8 team playoff.  That is REALLY hard to do.

The Mets say:

The club will not pick up the option on Manager Luis Rojas for the 2022 season. Decisions regarding the remaining coaching staff will be made over the next several days. We have offered Rojas the opportunity to remain in the organization in a TBD capacity.

This time I want a veteran manager who has done this before.  I don’t want to hear about how this guy could be good etc.  I want someone who is good and knows how to do it.

And for the love of Seaver, all of you in the mainstream media need to stop talking about the Mets changing the culture.  I am still not over the Mickey Hodges nonsense which somehow went from Howie of all people comparing him to Saint Gil, and two years later Mickey is a yelling match hallway by a game named Tim.

No more culture changes.  No more speeches about how this time we’re going to build a sustained winner.  This time, do it.

In the meantime, I want everyone who was on the 2021 Mets gone.  That includes deGrom in case you are curious.  Not one of these players said it was wrong to boo the fans.  I will never forgive any of them  Be gone, all of you.

Rojas Warning In Effect for Queens and surrounding areas

A ROJAS WARNING IS IN EFFECT FOR ALL OF QUEENS
INCLUDING CITI FIELD

THIS MEANS THAT A MANAGERIAL CHANGE IS EXPECTED WITHIN 24 HOURS.

AT 900 AM EDT THE NEW YORK METS WERE 7 GAMES UNDER .500 AND 10.5 GAMES OUT OF FIRST PLACE.  PREVIOUSLY THE METS HAVE MISSED AN EIGHT TEAM PLAYOFF.

ROJAS SHOULD EXPECT INCREASED AMOUNT OF PRESSURE FROM FANS TO ASK STEVE COHEN TO MAKE THIS CHANGE IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING TODAY’S CONTEST.  ROJAS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO IMMEDIATELY VACATE THE MANAGER’S OFFICE WITH LITTLE NOTICE.

The Mets’ problem is not the font

I keep thinking about the article in the WSJ about the Mets new branding efforts.

He and his wife Alexandra Cohen have prescribed a marketing overhaul that will include an update to the team’s brand design, including customized fonts in marketing materials like photography, signage and ads, as well as new experiences and features at its stadium meant to give the Mets more cultural credibility.

So…while the article suggests some things that don’t sound crazy to me like using the unused space at Citi Field…I keep staring at “customized fonts.”

Fonts are not the problem.  The game is boring is the problem.  If you do an exciting game people will get over $100 tickets and even your players booing the fans (see all my fellow fans who have sold their souls now to Baez).  But it is boring.  David Wright’s final game ruined my son forever as the Mets and Marlins played the most boring game in baseball history.

This idea of live comedy during the game?   There is no way that will be good.  You can either do knock-knock jokes for the 7 year olds or you will have some hack comedian who can’t make a living touring.  Bad idea.

“Cultural Credibility” can be a trap as well.  You follow the trends and the Mets could wind up being the baseball version of this…

…which the Mets being the Mets likely will become.

I refer the Mets to another brand of New York Baseball, the Yankees.  Year after year, decade after decade, they leave their brand alone.  Saint George declined to do the Turn Ahead The Clock stuff because he (correctly) said the Yankees were wearing what they would be wearing.

Chasing the latest trend is not the way Steve.  What solves everything is winning baseball.   Baez can do whatever he wants as long as he hits, we saw that this month.

Donald Trump once said, “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody, and I wouldn’t lose any voters, OK?”….and that’s how your typical Mets fan behaves.  Win baseball games, hit home runs, and a Met probably could do whatever they want on 5th Avenue.

So I get the desire to market.  I get the desire to get younger fans in here.  The answer isn’t fonts.  It’s fixing the basic sport and winning games.  It’s an NBA2K world, and strikeouts and home runs isn’t an attractive product no matter what typeface you use.

Mets Chinx jersey

Wikipedia informs me that Lionel Du Fon Pickens, better known by his stage name Chinx, was an American rapper from Queens, New York.

In need of a quick post I saw this this morning.  It should be a warning to the Mets NOT TO MESS WITH THE FONTS
