Is Steve Cohen taking advice from Mets Police?

The other day I wrote a piece about the disaster that is Steve and Alex Cohen’s 2024 Mets.  In that I encourage Steve to stop disappearing during rough patches.

Now, two days in a row, Steve has found a minute to speak to his customers!

There ya go Steve!  Just do that!  Nice job.  No catty backhanded compliment from me.  Nice job.  Do that.

Hey Steve Cohen, how about meaningful Mets games in MAY?

Screenshot

Steve, bro, what the hell is this?

14.5 back before Memorial Day?

At least Fred Wilpon wanted us to have meaningful games in September, which we mocked.  Now we don’t even get to have them on Memorial Day weekend.

Steve, even the 1978 Mets were WAY better on May 23rd.

Even 1992’s Worst Team Money Can Buy was better.

Steve. you’ve gotten everything wrong.

You fired Buck.  That was you, right? Totally not Stearns. That was what we were told and I believe you to be a man of your word.

You didn’t pick up the phone for one of the shiniest free agents.  Why not take a shot?  If you don’t ask the beauty queen to the prom then she can’t say yes.

You castrated the museum which was actually the best feature Citi Field had.

The dance team is a joke, but I suspect why you had to say yes to that idea, I get it bro, I feel ya.

City Connect wasn’t a disaster, I will give you that one.

But it’s not even Memorial Day and the season is over and the fanbase is checked out. I warned you about the fanbase last September.  It’s gonna get ugly.  That New Rich Billionaire smell has worn off.

So what do I want you to do?

Well – I am going to throw the word culture around as every regime does.

  • Pete has to go.  Every day you wait his value diminishes.  And remind the next guy that Let’s Go Mets does not have an F in it.  That’s about brand.
  • Solve your Lindor problem.  Him having an OK season and a half hid the forgeable sin of turning on the fans.  This one will get ugly if he sucks.  Not hating your customers is about brand.
  • Give David Stearns a 15 year contract.  Stop with the new regime every two years.  Stability is about brand.
  • Give Carlos Mendoza a 15 year contract.  Same note.  Now, it’s kinda obvious he was your “oh shoot what do we do now” panic move and you should never have fired Buck, but this organization needs stability and some sort of ONGOING culture not a new culture every two years.  Brand. The Mets Way, whatever it is, let’s stick with it
  • Tweet ALL the time.  It’s lame when you show up after a three game inning streak and then we don’t hear from you for a month.  You’re not busy when they win, you can fire off a tweet at 10:15pm once in a while.
  • Trade anyone not named Nimmo.
  • Put the museum back where it was and the way it was. Brand.
  • Hire some people in the marketing team who don’t lean into a “If you know NYC” campaign while showing us they don’t know NYC.  It’s 7 TRAIN not 7 Line.  That’s the kind of mistake you make if you’re form out of town and have never taken the subway.  Flushing line, 7 Train.  If you know NYC, you know that.  If you don’t know NYC you think a Dance Team is going to draw fans. Brand.

AND, you’re going to give a press conference admitting this is a disaster and that you’re on the case.  Stand there and take questions for 20 minutes.  Stop hiding out.

THEN declare what kind of owner you are.  If you wanna be George Steinbrenner then I want to hear from you after every sweep in Cleveland.  If you want to be the Maras, thats fine.  It was nice knowing you and we will talk to Stearns and you can go off and run your other businesses and we’ll leave you alone.  Either is OK.  But you can’t be half-in in this town, and right now you’re half-in and your entire product is a disaster.

Right now the brand is a frat boy at first who thinks its funny to drop an F bomb into the prayers, a decade long commitment to a guy who doesn’t like the customers, a dance team, losing faceless baseball, and a new front office every two years.

SOMEONE approved all these hires, and at worst someone approved the hiring of the person making all these hires.

This is your team. You chose to be “Uncle Steve” – well Uncle Steve, your product sucks.  I don’t want to hear that there’s nothing you can do about it until the trade deadline.

The Mets think you care about ribbons

Remember when I started using these Jim memes that Krasinski looked like this.

CITI FIELD SELECTED AS A WINNER OF FRONT OFFICE SPORTS 2024 BEST VENUES AWARD POWERED BY SPORTS INNOVATION LABS

FLUSHING, N.Y., MAY 22, 2024 – Citi Field has been named a winner in the Front Office Sports 2024 Best Venues Award powered by Sports Innovation Labs. This year’s award recognizes 10 sports venues that have met and exceeded the evolving demands of fans and set new industry standards for success.

Venues across the industry submitted applications and responded to questions about their technologies, mobile app features, food options/dietary inclusivity, transportation offerings, mixed-use functionality, and overall venue design, and the responses were scored accordingly. The venues with the best fan experience were selected following this competitive process.

“We are thrilled to be named a winner of the new, Front Office Sports 2024 Best Venues Award,” said Katie Haas, EVP of Ballpark Operations, New York Mets  “This award is a testament to the dedication and hard work of countless members of our staff and partners who go above and beyond to ensure that we not only have one of the best ballparks in the country, but also provide a best-in-class fan experience at Citi Field whether you are here for a baseball game, soccer match, concert or one of the many other events hosted here each year.”

The Mets, who were previously named Front Office Sports Best Employers in Sports in 2022 and 2019, have made continual strides to transform Citi Field into a best-in-class venue. After installing more than 300 LCD screens and over 15 million total LEDs in 2022 and MLB’s largest scoreboard at 17,400 sq. ft. along with additional LEDs in 2023, Samsung Electronics America and the Mets continued to build upon these significant updates in 2024 with the installation of four new tight pitch LED boards including one 3D anamorphic display.

Additionally, Citi Field continues to offer top tier dining options, bringing fans delicious and exciting new local NYC options each season. Overseeing the culinary operations at Citi Field is Aramark Senior Executive Chef Jason Eksterowicz, who joined the team in the winter of 2017.

Citi Field’s All-Star dining lineup is highlighted by ballpark favorites such as Pat LaFrieda’s Original Filet Mignon Steak Sandwich, Prince Street Pizza, Danny Meyer’s Shake Shack, the Coca-Cola Food Truck and Taste of Queens portable, which rotates periodically throughout the season to feature different local small businesses. Citi Field is also home to exclusives such as the Classic New York Deli Pastrami Sandwich, Anne Burrell’s Italian Eats, Adam Richman’s Burger Hall of Fame, Amazin’ Chicken Co. and more.

The Mets hope to add winning baseball to Citi Field at some time n the future. A date for that was not yet announced but it won’t be in 2024.

Stray Thoughts

Had a busy day but here’s some stray thoughts

Remember that time Steve got rid of the Mets museum but nobody on the Mets Hall Committee said anything publicly that I aware of?

Gary Cohen giving a speech really isn’t that interesting, but I guess it was just SNY covering it and nobody does care.

Does this manager not realize the season is lost or is he just a rah rah guy?
