My buddy over at Centerfield Maz has a nice look back at Bob Murphy…and he made me doubly-smile by posting this picture.
Screw you boiler company. Shame on the folks who don’t write the copy to say “the boiler company proudly sponsors the Bob Murphy radio booth.”
Murphy was also an announcer for the New York Titans (now the New York Jets) of the American Football League (before they joined the NFL. In addition, in 1973, he hosted the New York edition of Bowling for Dollars, a locally-produced game show, on WOR-TV.

Comparing the classic and modern Mets patches

I just happen to own the original team issue Met patch from the 1960s or early 70s. People have been complaining about the current patch. Here is a side by side comparison. Enjoy. If I had the time, I’d do a whole history of how the patch has evolved into the mess that it is now.
Well, I am unfamiliar with the folks complaining about the current patch, but I enjoy the topic.
Aside from my usual comments about the NY, and Steve’s previous observations about the E, I never liked the incomplete baseball stitching. Why doesn’t it get to the end of the ball? I always think these are Chinese bootleg jerseys when I see them.

A few days late (had a busy run of ‘stuff’) but here’s clips from the Mets clinching and celebrating in 1986. Keith Hernandez seems quite happy. We Mets fans were hooligans – look what we did to the field. Well not me, I was home.
