More Colactus on Dan Murphy

What do you do with a man who is hitting .320(ish) and has hit in his last 11 starts and would have an 11 game hitting streak if the manager hadn’t PH him in the 9th the other night?

You sit him down so Nick DFA Evans can start.

Maybe Murph has a cold or something I don’t know about.  Maybe all the 300th hit celebration are dealing with the media wore him down.

“People treat this guy like he’s a five-year, six-year veteran,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “I’m trying to make sure Dan Murphy, next year we get the max out of him. I think if he has a place to play where he can focus his energies – which there’s a lot of – I think he’ll be a good player.”

“It’s who he is and what he is. I’m going to tell you something – you cannot change people. You can try to temper it, but Dan Murphy is a good player because of who he is and what he is and what he stands for.

“The minute I change that, he’s going to be an average guy. I don’t want an average guy. I want him to be himself, but I want him to understand through the process of learning what it takes to make sure he can play 162 games.”

The article (good read) also suggests Murphy could be the LFer next year with Bay in CF.

Whispers of Citi Field fences changing?

Marty Noble on MLB.com

If the whispers carry fact, the height of the wall that stretches from the left-field corner to where it intersects with the center-field wall would be reduced by as much as half, and the distances from the plate to some of the more distant corners would be chopped as well. The Mo Zone, however, might survive because of its popularity. Citi wouldn’t become Citizens Bank Bandbox or challenge the Friendly Confines in terms of coziness. The Wilpons have final say, and Fred still prefers 3-2 to 11-7.

I say leave it alone.

Citi Field is certainly no Shea Stadium, longtime Mets killer Chipper Jones laments

Good morning.  I had fun at Citi Field last night (no blue Los Mets jerseys were available for purchase) and met a few actual readers which is pretty cool.

They actually spotted Media Goon who was sporting his snazzy blue (80’s style) Mets jersey number 25 with the name Mediagoon on it.

I have a nice pinny with the name Mets Police on it, but wasn’t wearing it, opting instead to wear my “1987 Seaver” which is me just being Mets-hipster-ironic.

Anyway, here’s what Larry says about the new place.

“Not the same atmosphere,” said Jones, who named his son after Shea.

“The fans were right there on top of you. It’s a little more laid-back now, the same thing in Atlanta. You can still yell at the fans. But you got to scream a lot louder.”
