Education time: Mets sign many of their draft picks

My friends the Mets want to educate you with this information.

METS ANNOUNCE 2021 DRAFT SIGNINGS

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 1, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced the team has signed 19 of their 20 selections in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

The team did not agree to terms with RHP Kumar Rocker, the club’s first-round selection, who was drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 2021 First-Year Player Draft.

“This is clearly not the outcome we had hoped for and wish Kumar nothing but success moving forward,” said Acting General Manager Zack Scott. “We’re excited about the players we have signed and look forward to watching them develop and contribute to the organization in the years to come.”

Under the current rules of Major League Baseball, the Mets will receive a supplemental selection following the 10th pick in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft.

The Mets have not won the World Series in 35 years.

Where was Mets Captain John Franco yesterday?

You guys are so sensitive sometimes so let me say up front – I AM JUST ASKING A QUESTION.  I am not saying he’s the devil.  Maybe he was at his grandmother’s 110th birthday party, I dunno…

But where was Mets Captain John Franco yesterday?  They trotted out some 2000 era Mets and it seems odd to me that Mets HOFer and former captain and I think-still Mets Ambassador John Franco wasn’t there.

Also isn’t Al Leiter some sort of Mets Consultant something?

On a similar note, it caught my eye that there weren’t 80’s era Mets there for Ronnie.  They had to trot down Gary Cohen?  I guess there aren’t too many 1986 era Mets left in pure standing – Doc and Darryl seem to run hot and cold, you’re not gonna invite Lenny or Backman…..maybe there just isn’t anyone “right” to invite.

Anyway I am sure you guys will decide this post is too negative or something. Just asking questions.

Loser Mets lose in Black Edge jerseys – notes on the new old look

So you know I am going to say the uniforms looked terrible, because you know I am smart and they do of course look terrible.

I am glad the swoosh is white and not blue because it makes the jersey look even worse!  I also think aside from the other ugliness, the patches are too much.  It’s just way too much STUFF.

Speaking of the patches..

This is the most disappointing thing I have ever seen.

Here’s a good example of why the color scheme is terrible. You can barely read this. Black and blue don’t mix.

Anyway I am GLAD they lost. For now on the Mets can go 147 and 15 every season. I hope they NEVER win in these.

Could Matt Harvey pitch well 3 games in a row? You’ll look!

Every 5 or 6 days The Dark Knight returns!  The Real Deal has had two solid starts in a row, totally ruining my Matt Harvey recaps.  Surely he won’t do well three games in a row.

In the 1st, a 1-2-3  with two strikeouts (sit down son!) for Matt…..

…and normally I’d show you him walking off the mound looking cool, but I didn’t get home in time to catch the feed, so let’s use an old photo.

In the second, ANOTHER 1-2-3? With a strikeout?  As Jim Halpert would say, “what is going on here?”

In the third, a single a popup and then another single.  Surely THIS will be the meltdown.  NOPE.  TDK gets out of it!

In the 4th, a one out double.  Surely THIS will be the meltdown!   He probably liked like this.

Nope. Got out of it.

Maybe in the 5th?  A single to lead off the inning usually leads to a 17 run inning for the opponent…but Matt gets one of his trademark DPs and gets out of it again.

The Best Pitcher In Baseball was back out there for the 6th and Holy Supermodels Batman, another 1-2-3 and here’s one of those walking off the mound looks that we all love.

Then a rare 7th inning appearance for Matt!  A leadoff flyout and Brandon Hyde thinks to himself…I should not push my luck. BUT LOOK HOW HAPPY MATT IS!!!

6 and a third, no runs, no walks, 6 hits and 5Ks (and no massive HRs).

Not my most fun recap – I don’t have a video of the game so I don’t have much to work with. Plus Matt is so good there’s nothing to make fun of.

Could Matt Harvey be the Pitcher Of The Month For July? He could, right?

This guy was “eh, we’re the Orioles” away from being DFAd and probably career over. What a resurrection.

I don’t know what cool part of Detroit is, but lock up your supermodels because THE DARK KNIGHT IS BACK BABY. My black Orioles jersey is looking like a good investment!

MATT HARVEY WILL RETURN

Mets got Javy Baez. Good.

METS ACQUIRE ALL-STAR INFIELDER JAVIER BÁEZ AND RHP TREVOR WILLIAMS FROM CHICAGO

Good times when the Mets had nice uniforms.

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 30, 2021 – The New York Mets today announced the club has acquired two-time All-Star infielder Javier Báez, RHP Trevor Williams and cash considerations from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for minor league outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong.

Báez, 28, has spent his entire eight-year major league career with the Cubs. This season with Chicago-NL, he is tied for sixth in the National League with 65 RBI and tied for seventh with 22 home runs. He has a 2.8 WAR according to Baseball-Reference.

Since 2016, his first full major league season, he has accumulated 9.6 defensive WAR, tied for fourth in the majors and tied for second in the NL. Báez is a four-time winner of The Fielding Bible Award for defensive excellence. He won the award three times as a multi-position player and was honored as a shortstop last year.

The 6-0, 190-pounder was named an NL All-Star in 2018 and 2019, won a Gold Glove in 2020 and was an NL Silver Slugger recipient in 2018, when he finished as the runner-up for the NL MVP Award. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native won the 2016 World Series with Chicago-NL. That October, he was named the NLCS Co-MVP with LHP Jon Lester.

Báez became the first player in major league history to start the All-Star Game at second base and shortstop in consecutive seasons.

Williams, 29, has made 13 appearances (12 starts) for the Cubs this season, going 4-2 with a 5.06 ERA (33 earned runs/58.2 innings) with 22 walks and 61 strikeouts.

He has appeared in 119 games (106 starts) across six major league seasons between the Pirates (2016-2020) and Cubs (2021). Overall, he is 35-39 with a 4.49 ERA (296 earned runs/593.1 innings) with 199 walks and 477 strikeouts. He was originally selected by the Marlins in the second round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of Arizona State University.

Williams has made two starts at Citi Field and owns a 1.93 ERA (three earned runs/14.0 innings) with four walks and 10 strikeouts.

Crow-Armstrong, 19, was the Mets first-round pick in the 2020 First-Year Player Draft out of Harvard-Westlake High School in California. He appeared in six games with the St. Lucie Mets before he suffered a season-ending shoulder injury. He underwent surgery on his right shoulder for a GLAD lesion (glenoid labral articular disruption) in May.
