Dave Kingman sighting

Yes, that was Dave Kingman — the mighty and mercurial slugger — signing free autographs for nearly two hours as part of a Father’s Day promotion. (He was dressed in a casual Hawaiian shirt and khaki slacks, unlike the poor sweltering mascot.)

..

One by one, fans approached Kingman, 62, and waited for him to pen his signature. Many of the fans recounted their favorite home run. The 6-foot-6 slugger once hit a ball 500 feet against Jerry Koosman. There was also a blast of least 530 feet at Wrigley Field. And a shot (albeit not a home run) that hit a speaker on the roof of Seattle’s Kingdome.

We’re #117! Let’s Go Mets!

Woohoo, I was browsing my iCopy of ESPN Magazine where they rank all the sports franchises.

Want to guess who finished #117th?

Who finished last in baseball?

Yes, the Mets.

The good news? The Mets beat out the Timberwolves.

The bad news? They finished two behind the Atlanta Thrashers.

When you’re….

…you know where I’m going with this.

No we’re not becoming a t-shirt site.   There’s some perfectly groovy Mets t-shirt sites out there and we’re not trying to be some poor man’s version of those guys.  Goon and I just dig the phrase and he ran some numbers and he says we can break even somewhat “easily” and then anything from there is gravy.  (He laid out all the cash anyway).

Yep, we make a few bucks profit on every shirt (like $5).  We’re not out to gouge you.  If we do ok on these we’re going to reinvest for a second round of shirts for another idea we have and then that would probably be it.

As I’ve mentioned before, I do like money so (just being honest) the thought of selling a few shirts is nice, if we don’t we don’t.

I’m going for transparency here – so anything else you want to know just ask.  I know sometimes people can freak out about monetizing a blog so I’m just being up front.

Anyway, whether you choose to buy one or not I think we can all agree that being able to Man Up and Play Better is the key to success in the major leagues.

If you have really specific questions about the shirts email [email protected] or post them in the comments.

Thanks folks, hope you like them!
