Review & Outlook: Madoff and the Mets – WSJ.com

I’m not good with this financial stuff…and I’m struggling even to write a summary sentence for this link….but here’s an interesting Opinion piece from yesterday’s WSJ.  The opening paragraph is…

Bernie Madoff perpetrated the largest financial fraud in American history, but are his crimes now being compounded by the trustee charged with unwinding the Ponzi scheme? We’re beginning to wonder after scrutinizing the evidence against Fred Wilpon and Saul Katz, the New York Mets owners who stand accused of colluding with Madoff.

Yogi The Met | The LoHud Mets Blog

As we all wish former Met Yogi Berra a happy 86th birthday, Howard Megdal reminds us of a few of Yogi’s 9 ABs.

Specifically, May 4, 1965 was arguably Berra’s last game in the major leagues as Yogi, the all-time great catcher deservedly enshrined in the Hall of Fame. Berra caught all nine innings of the Tuesday night game against the Phillies at Shea Stadium.

Does anyone older than me know the background on why Yogi came back..and only came back for 4 games/9 ABs…and why the Mets would release him in May?  It’s a weird coda on one of the all-time great baseball cards.

Houston, hello! – Mets Blog – ESPN New York

Mark Simon continues his great Thursday series on ESPN NY…this time focusing on Houston (it was scheduled for today because the Mets were supposed to be in Houston pre-rainout)…so beyond the NLCS there are some other coolnessess including learning that Bruce Boisclair has the best Mets average in Houston.

A very good read while we all kill time waiting for the Lukas’ piece on black uniforms.

The greatest offensive performance in Mets history came on August 30, 1999 in Houston, when Edgardo Alfonzo went 6-for-6 with three home runs and five RBI in a 17-1 rout of the Astros.
