As Rangers fans mourn the passing of Rod Gilbert, let’s remember that time in 2010 when the Mets decided to confuse Jason Bay at Jason’s introductory press conference by having Rod present Jason with a Rangers jersey.   Weird moment.

Hi Pete.  It’s been two weeks.  I’m still talking about it.

I’m talking about how the Mets are SEVEN games out..

I am talking about how some idiots are saying you are “carrying the team” – carrying the team?  Where?

Sure you hit some home runs this week, but did they do anything at all to help the team win?  They really didn’t.  All they did was make the scores look closer.

So your plan of staying calm all is well has magnificently failed.  You would need a full week of everything going perfect for the Mets and everything going wrong for the Braves (and the Phillies to also have a lousy week) to see first place again.  I’d say that won’t happen, but it just happened for the Braves.

Enjoy today’s game, enjoy the charter flight home (I hope the airports are open) and the Giants will be waiting for you when you get home.

Also enjoy the Curse of the Black Jerseys.

I’m still talking about it.  All the people that call me negative every April will now take the rest of the season off, but as always I will still be here, one year older, still waiting for a parade.

Those losers the Mets fell to 6.5 and could be 7 back if the Braves win tonight…..but fortunately for the Mets one man stands in their way, and let’s check the numbers.

The Orioles are even bigger losers having lost SIXTEEN games in a row.  Yikes.  They could use some of Pete Alonso’s leadership.

Matt got the leadoff hitter.  But then an E6, a single by 2022 Mets 1B Freddie Freeman and then another single and the bases were loaded and Matt had his bad body language to go with his 2 mph slower than normal fastball (Jim Palmer said it on the teevee)

But as sad as Matt looks, he knows those losers the Mets need his help so SIT DOWN SON.

Matt gets out of it.  He does not look sharp tonight, but we do get out first “Matt Harvey walks to the dugout” shot.

He does not look happy.  I’m sure he wanted a hot Saturday Night at Fells Point, but we’ll see.  In the second, a 1-2-3 and on to the third….

A bunch of stuff happened while I was talking on the phone to my mom and she was giving me PBP about the concert, but here’s Matt being unhappy about the double that scored 2 runs

It’s gone goodbye!   Hi Matt,

Matt continues to have nothing.

The Orioles tied the game at 3 and then the 5th looked like it was going fine but Matt gave up another HR and made this face.

I feel like its the same shot over and over.

The stupid Orioles don’t want me to enjoy video games and sent Matt out for the 6th.  Guys, I’ve been watching baseball since 4pm and baseball is boring. Will you please knock this guy out of the box?

With out out Joc Pederson who homered earlier gets a single and with Matt at around 98 pitches or so, I finally get what I want.

Here comes a man clearly not in uniform to visit Matt.

And hey that’s a nice shot, I will use that for the thumbnail.

A not sharp 5 and a third, SEVEN hits, 5 Ks, a walk, 2 HRs and 4 earned runs plus whatever happens to Pederson…but I have video games to play so you can look up your own boxscore.

Mets looking at 7 back unless the Orioles can rally.

 

On July 30, 2021 the Mets woke up in first place with a 3 game lead.  Then, under this man’s leadership, they brought back the black jerseys.

That night they lost.  The next day a win.

Then….LLL..W..LLLL…

Then they swept the We Gave Up Nationals.

Then the real part of the schedule kicked in:  LLLLL W LL

Do I feel bad for the Mets?  No. Not at all.

The team is built around Vulgar Pete, a player with whom you can finish 3rd, 4th and 3rd.

Second Choice Louis Rojas missed an 8 team playoff and was brought back.

We were told all those years that if only Sandy Alderson had resources he’d be able to do something with them.

Is JDG a big loss?  Yes.  Did anyone jump and scream about the Mets letting him throw 100 in March?  I think you know the answer.

Even the Mets’ social media account is vulgar now.

So I do not feel bad.  Enjoy your black jerseys and your loser baseball team that is SIX games out this morning Steve.
