Notes from the Mets holiday party (Star-Ledger)

I like when nice things happen…so read Brian Costa’s recap of the Mets holiday party

…and then keep reading about how Lackey didn’t call Omar back as planned…..and Reyes says his leg feels fine….

…and for those of you who know what the joke means, the Mets may sign the Japanese J.J. Putz

Your comments about "The Letter"

Still catching up about Dan’s letter and the response from the Mets.  There’s a bunch of comments on that thread, but I know many readers just look at the main page, so I thought I’d grab and post a few here.

Brian says he also got a call back from the Mets:
Had a similar conversation with the Mets regarding uniforms. Their Senior VP of Marketing contacted me and talked to me for 20 minutes about the team’s on-field aesthetic after I sent an email complaining about black being included in the team’s “throwback” uniforms

Ceetar thinks we’re overreacting to the Mets communication style:
Does Burger king explain why they change a menu item? Does the MTA make explanations about which ad campaigns they run or which entrances they want to keep open 24/7?

Well I bet if they changed the Whopper (and added black undershadow) people would complain.  Here’s an entire forum.

Bplam suggests:

Another idea for the season holder is allowing access to certain parts of the stadium with a special pass. Currently I know you can’t get into the Acela Club or any of the good restaurants unless you have a certain level ticket. My idea would be giving each plan holder a pass for each seat they have bought and that gives them access to these restaurants and clubs.

I’ll leave you with Jim’s comments, which I think fits the mood of many fans this morning.

Great job at getting a response, but it sounds like most of it was corporate-speak….”That is a problem, we are aware of it”

And props to you for standing your ground and not renewing. Wellington Mara said it best, “Empty seats speak volumes”

Someday, the Mets will learn.

Five Questions For An Average Mets Fan (Fan #59)

Next up in the 5 Questions series is Harris.

1. When did you start following the Mets?
1999
2. What is your favorite Mets memory?
I have two:
Watching Timo Perez catch the last out of the 2000 NLCS to send them to the world series. He did the crow hop and I was in heaven.
John Maine pitching game 6 of the 2006 NLCS, the night before the Endy catch. Maine and the team were just resilient and it was a must win game that was played like good teams play.
3. What is your worst Mets memory or experience?
Yadier Molina’s home run off of Heilman in game 7 of 2006.
4. If you could change one off-field thing about the franchise what
would it be?
Paint all the seats the colors they should be. Match Shea and pay homage to the original home of the Mets. Orange, Blue, Green and Red forever.
5. If you owned the team starting tomorrow, what is the first thing
you would change?
The mindset of the team. I wouldn’t pursue big names, letting the talent from within develop. If you look at the greatest teams in baseball history, they were home grown players coming into their own.

Mets Season Ticket Holder’s Tour Of Citi Field: Clubhouse (Part 2)

Jimmy the Mets fan hooked us up with some pictures form the season ticket holder’s tour.  Part one was yesterday and we’ve now made our way to the clubhouse.

Great line by Jimmy:
We can only hope this locker name plate doesn’t say Castillo or Delgado in April

Clubhouse carpet.  Those neon figures look familiar.  THAT’S part of Mets tradition now, but all the other stuff we talk about isn’t?

Players lounge

Nice!!! Pinball in the players lounge!

Cool pool table.  You guys can chip in and get me that for Christmas!  I’m surprise the felt isn’t black, I guess that doesn’t look good on a billiards team.

Note the choice of players on the wall.   Interesting choices.

Tomorrow we head off to the legendary infamous trainer’s room!
