Alternate New York Mets Caps Day 30

Today’s alternate Mets cap comes from Fitted Hawaii.  They do a lot of neat custom color jobs.   This one isn’t horrible.  I could complain about the red, and it would probably look bad on a human, but in the picture or on your shelf, kinda interesting.

More About Kiner Koaching

Greg from Faith and Fear in Flushing (he should be on the Mount Rushmore of Mets bloggers since he actually got a book published!) send over this note…it was friendly not a shot at me, a personal email I asked if I could post.

Shannon,

Ralph was just helping out in the offseason. There’s a spread of great
doings in the Florida Instructional League in the 1972 yearbook (the
print edition, that is), and Ralph is right in the middle of it (with
his logo cap and everything).

I’m surprised you never heard of Danny Frisella. He was a splendid
righty complement to Tug in the early ’70s and a master of the
forkball. Was part of the deal that brought Felix Millan to the Mets.
Sadly, he died in a dune buggy accident on New Years Day 1977. (Don’t
they teach this stuff at the Mets Police Academy?).

Take care,

Greg

As for my question yesterday asking if Ralph ever left the booth as was suggested in the NY Times story (scroll down the site) it looks like that never happened.

Paul Lukas who runs the great Uni Watch sent me this link which shows Kiner in uniform.   Neat to see him in a Mets uniform.

John Stearns 1980 New York Mets Topps Baseball Card

Today’s visit to the cool 1980 Topps Baseball Card site is a look at John Stearns.   You wish you had a player like Stearns.   Gritty catcher with some speed who hit well enough.   The injury bug caught up with him, and I remember joking every season that he’d be back in June.  Would have made a fine 2009 Met.

More about this card here.

Controversial Citi Field Fundraiser?

I’ve been sitting on this one for a few days because I am admittedly not an expert on the topic.   However, the sources I follow for this blog keep mentioning it, and I have received email from readers asking for a post.

There’s an upcoming fundraiser at Citi Field that some feel should be canceled.  If you would like to know more about the story you may want to read this article which calls for canceling it, and this article which praises the Mets for not canceling it.
