Mets Police Morning Laziness: State of the Mets….No Sale For You!

SLACKISH REACTION:   Well, I am sure by now you have heard about the reports that Steve Cohen is pulling out of buying the Mets.

But sources familiar with the talks said the Wilpons pushed late to maintain some control of the franchise beyond the five-year window. There also appears to have been some disagreement over the long-term status of SNY. Details are murky on the SNY front, but initial reports might have overstated the simplicity of the Wilpons retaining ownership of the network as a separate entity. (via NY Post)

I think you all need to calm down.  You were trading these billionaires for a billionaire whose google searches turn up words like Feds.

I am no financial expert, but this is two straight hedge fund guys who seemed interested in buying the team and then the deal fell apart.  Are the financials that bad?

But lets stop to remember Admiral Leonard McCoy.  This distinguished veteran of the Star Fleet served over 5 decades in the medical corps.

Baseball revealed the new Spring Training caps.  These will double as the BP Caps.

This cap is almost super nice except for the Mets logo on the side.  Side logos are terrible.  But let’s interrupt here to honor Han Solo.  Han is one of the great fighters for freedom of our time, and here to give him a medal is Princess Organa.

Wilmer Flores signed a deal with the Giants.

But I think what’s important here is that Private John Winger is home from his tour of duty.  Please welcome Private Winger.

You know, if we had made a t-shirt movie in like 1978 Bill would have been good in the lead.

Anyway, the Mets were having a great decade…until yesterday.  But the circus is back.  It always comes back.  I welcome the circus.  I love the circus  Never change Mets, I like the clicks.  Oh, and next time….credential Media Goon.

Mets great decade ends: Steve Cohen reportedly pulling out of purchasing the Mets

Well, so much for the Mets having a great decade.  The universe returned to normalcy, and of course things went off the rails for the Mets.

Many reports say billionaire Steve Cohen is pulling out of the deal to buy the Mets.

Let me say this makes me so happy.  I am so mad at the Mets for not credentialing Media Goon to Fan Fest that I have been using all my magic powers to make this happen.  So sorry Mets Incorporated, sucks to be you.

Speaking of MG, he won’t get credit for this…but he had the story.

Now he didn’t say what it was because he couldn’t source it, and you can’t just throw a bomb like that no matter how deep your mom’s basement is….but he had the story.  And lest you think he’s ret-conning this, look at his twitter timeline.  He tweeted that like 6 times, which he normally doesn’t do.

So what does it mean?  I dunno.  Puxsatawney Phil saw his shadow and the Mets won’t sign any big players for 6 years?

This is the second straight hedge fund rich guy that wanted to buy the Mets and then pulled out.  That makes me think the financials aren’t too good once people good at money start looking.

Meanwhile, given that MG had the story, pay attention to this:

Very interesting.

This next one would have been interesting and weird….

I thrive on chaos so I say good.  Enjoy the misery.  And credential the die-hards next time.  The guy wasn’t trying to beat you for twenty bucks Jeff.

This is the 2020 Mets BP and Spring Training Cap

In 2020 the Spring Cap and the BP cap is the same thing.

This is a nice looking cap.  I like the logo inside the logo thing.  I like the low crown.  Colors like nice.  People like @mediagoon are on their way to Dick’s right now!

Less good is this side…

WHY THE SIDE LOGO???

SIDE LOGOS SUCK.

DO NOT PUT SIDE LOGOS ON EVERYTHING.

Also it is $36 which some would describe as criminal.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: The Mets are a steady rock in a chaotic world

SLACKISH REACTION:  The 2020’s have been the Mets’ best decade yet.  So far they have calmly and swiftly dealt with a crisis, they’ve held a FanFest, they honored Mike Piazza, added some names to their Hall of Fame, and they promoted a popular guy from within.  It’s all smooth sailing.

Meanwhile, democracy is falling apart.  We can’t even hold elections properly.  The Senate is holding a trial without witnesses.  The UK decided to mess itself up.  And the Pandemic is coming.  But the Mets, the Mets got this.

And all that makes sense.  Like, I am not going to be surprised when the Mets have a 20 game lead in July and the season is canceled due to the Coronavirus Public Gathering Laws passed this summer.  That will be very Mets.  But not their fault.

As I typed that paragraph, this tweet came in.

That will get lost in today’s news cycle, but think about that one.  If they are messing with THE MONEY you know they are worried.  So don’t be surprised when someone decides we shouldn’t have 45,000 people together to watch men hit a ball with a stick.

In other news…I still haven’t gotten my “Super Bowl Bound” jersey and cap, ordered 15 days ago.   Delivery is now expected on the 7th.  Are you kidding me?

There is absolutely no Mets news this morning.

Enjoy some Shark & Goon.  Today we discuss Picard episode 2.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: Chiefs are Clutch, FedEx is whatever the opposite of clutch is

Warning this post will contain some vulgarities in a discussion of a Mets player.

SLACKISH REACTION:  A great Super Bowl.  The game was quite enjoyable, the telecast was on point, and an entertaining half-time show.  I do feel bad for the people on the West Coast who were unable to watch the first half as it all took place before 8:30pm Eastern.  As you know as a baseball fan, West Coast fans cannot watch a national sporting event that starts at 6:30 eastern time….I’m not sure why the NFL hurts the popularity of its biggest game by playing so early.

I am a 49ers fan.  I texted my son in the 4th quarter “I’m up 10 and I am terrified of Mahomes.”  I knew it was coming.  They left the guy too much time.  I was actually relieved when the Chiefs got the garbage TD as it was less painful to lose by 11 than 4.

Not as clutch as he Chiefs is FedEx.  I ordered a “Super Bowl bound” jersey and cap two weeks ago today.   Here’s the shipping journey it has been on, and as of this morning they are telling me it will arrive Wednesday.

I mean come on guys.  I can’t even be made at Fanatics, unless they availed themselves of FedEx Turtle 10 Days Shipping Economy Pricing (is that a thing?)     Why is this taking a week?

And what am I supposed to do with a Super Bowl cap now?  Hey, remember four days ago when my team lost this game?

The cap pictured above is a different cap I bought, it came from New Era in two days and I wore the heck out of it for a week and a half.

Just so annoyed at this.  Bad job FedEx.

On to the Mets……

Vulgar Pete Alonso took to twitter and included a vulgarity in his message.

One wonders why Pete continues to bastardize the proud traditions of our team by dropping an F in there.  This continues to be unacceptable.

I will be monitoring Pete’s season with great interest.

SHARK AND GOON are back with more podcasts.  Today it’s a discussion of Star Trek: Picard
