Billionaire Steve Cohen’s Mets sign famous baseball player Harrison Bader!

Huge move by Former Wilpons Intern David Stearns bringing in Harrison Bader!

I don’t have to tell most of you who Harrison Bader is, but for the one or two new fans to baseball, he batted .232 with 7HRS – and for you millennials, an OPS of .622 – last season with the Yankees and Reds.

Bader will reportedly earn $10,500,000 which isn’t bad for a WAR of 0.6

Welcome Harrison, and keep up the great job this off-season David!

Tickets are on sale now at Mets.com!

The new Mets black cap: is it a sign of the 2024 Mets City Connect design? Why it might be…

Good morning.

I mentioned yesterday (which was picked up by some outlets) that the Mets appear to be changing their black caps.

Well, here’s your content for today.

MLB has already announced that Nike is tweaking the design for all 30 teams, with new sizes for NOB and front numbers.  There is also a new design called the “Vapor Jersey” – you can see the Arizona versions if you google a bit.

I have been told a few times over the past few months by various sources that the Mets City Connect Jersey is black.  Yesterday, it was whispered to me that the design of the new cap is to match the design of the City Connect jersey.

A version of the plan I am hearing is that the Mets will lean into the City Connect jersey as part of the Black Fridays thing.

I haven’t seen anything official about the Mets doing this in 2024, so I’m not ready to declare it.  It could just be that the new Vapor design doesn’t have white trim.

The Phillies, Blue Jays and Cardinals are scheduled to have CC jerseys in 2024.   That’s just three teams.  Seems like Nike and MLB would want to introduce more than that….. say a black City Connect Mets jersey.

We’ll know soon enough.

Do the Mets have new black caps in 2024….and will the jerseys match? Some clues….

Here’s a shot from 9/1/23.  Note the white outline around the NY on the cap.

Now note this listing on the MLB Shop, and the use of the words AUTHENTIC and ON FIELD.

I scrolled down the MLB site and Lids and can’t find the design with the white outline.

Let’s take a look at what the Mets used to wear back in the day.

White outline.

Hmmmm.

So….have the Mets changed the on-field alternate cap for 2024 and why would they do this?  Without the white outline we wind up with the problem the old hybrid caps had, which is that the blue and black combine to make everything look kind of purple, and not distinct.

This also makes me wonder about the black jersey.  Will this not have a white outline?  Or will the caps not match the shirts? (Below the design last used.)

On the MLB Shop, any black jersey for sale is labeled, curiously, as “2022” design.   There is no option to buy a custom black jersey, although I will point out there is no option to buy a custom road jersey either.

Much thanks to @Tom_Hom22 for putting this on my radar.

Black uniforms suck and have no business in Queens – but if we must have one, the white outline helps make it less horrible.  This design is a regression Steve.  Not sure what you’re doing over there in Flushing.
