Another reason NOT to attend Mets games: Mets enact silly backpack ban

Well Mets, I guess you are unfamiliar with the concept of people going to games after work.  I work in New York City.  I carry a backpack.  Among other things it has my papers and a laptop.  You don’t seem to want my backpack to come to games, so it will not.

I need to go big font for this post.

Now let’s assume the worst. Dr. Evil will no longer be able to get into Citi Field with his evil backpack. Everyone is safe.

EXCEPT you are giving away bobbleheads and there is a line outside Citi Field for three hours. Dr. Evil can just walk up to the line WITH A BACKPACK and do whatever it is you are afraid of.

This is nonsense security theater. Complete nonsense. Nobody is any safer outside. Nobody is any safer on the 7 train. Nobody is any safer in the parking lot (I will remind you of the recent-is incident in the Dodger Stadium PARKING LOT).

You can read about this stupid new policy on Mets.com.

Why backpacks? Can’t a purse have just as many pockets to search, so why are you allowing that style bag?

Backpacks have a lot of compartments and are cumbersome to inspect. While we understand that other bags could be just as large or have multiple compartments, we are able to limit the number of bags that fit that criteria by prohibiting easily identifiable bags such as backpacks. It allows us to screen guests faster and more effectively.

Can I store my backpack at Citi Field somewhere?

There are no bag check facilities inside of Citi Field so it is important to review the security policies prior to departing for the ballpark. However, in the event that a guest is not aware of our enhanced bag policy prior to arrival, we will have temporary on-site locker rentals available and operated by a third party for a fee that can serve as a last minute solution. The locker rentals are being offered by an outside company and will be available two hours prior to the start of the game and then up to an hour after the game is completed.

Um….I don’t want to give anyone ideas…..you guys know there’s a reason they got rid of storage lockers in airports, right?

Finally, I love this.  No backpacks, unless you buy one from us.  Then you can use it.

What if I purchase a backpack within Citi Field, what happens then?

Backpacks will still be offered at our many retail stores within Citi Field. If you decide to purchase a backpack as a gift while attending a game, you will receive a Citi Field credential that will be attached to your newly purchased backpack that will give you permission to use that bag while on-site for that particular game. However, you will not be permitted to bring that backpack back in with you while attending any future games as the dated credential will be expired.

And finally Mets, please answer me this.  If there is a security risk, why are you waiting ten days to enact this policy?

If there IS a threat are you not being completely reckless tonight by letting backpacks in?

It’s a threat or it’s not – you can’t say it’s a threat but not for another ten days.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: Lyin’ Todd Frazier sees the writing on the wall. Sad.

SLACKISH REACTION:  Man video games are accurate!  I was playing MLB The Show.  “Me” is a pitcher who got drafted by the Mets.  I made it to Queens in 2019 because the Mets were short starting pitchers and I was pretty good.   Here’s where it gets Metsian…

My first game in 2020 Me tears his MCL and is out for the year!  The good news is the Mets won the NL without Me.  The bad news is they lost the World Series…to the Yankees.

In 2021 they assigned me to Binghamton!  And I felt bad because you know who is still at 1B in 2021….Dom Smith. Lol.

Also I ran into a catcher named Jason Todd, who should totally be Matt Harvey’s catcher.  If you don’t get the reference just move on.

Meanwhile, in real life my shoulder is killing me.

The Mets get to beat up on the Marlins (with Wheeler, One True Ace and Thor) this weekend which should hide all sorts of sins.

Lyin’ Todd Frazier knows his playing time is in trouble:  Sad. (via Newsday)

“Sure, whatever [Callaway] wants to do,” Frazier said. “Right now, I’m not producing. We all know that. It’s something that is part of the game. I know I’ll be back for sure. It’s his decision at the end, but I got to start putting up some numbers, and that’s the bottom line.”

The Mets are keeping Lowrie in AAA for now which seems weird.  I am hoping it’s a delay tactic while they try to get something back for Lyin’ Todd instead of just releasing him.   Frazier is only 33?  He seems like one of those guys at the end of his career, doesn’t he?

I can tell y’all aren’t too jazzed about the Mets.  May stats here at Mets Police are WAY down….like off-season down.  Very interesting.

Gil Must Go: 1969 Mets cancel exhibition game at West Point

This team is a joke.  We need some new owners or something.  Yesterday was so ridiculous I could see the team still talking about it 50 years later in the press notes.

The Mets were scheduled to play an exhibition against the cadet nine at West Point, but were forced to cancel the contest after a point of legal order had been raised by the Players Association…The game would have been the fourth exhibition of the season, one over the limit…

I mean come on.  Didn’t anyone bother to check?  Why are we playing exhibition games in the middle of the season anyway?

Just ridiculous.  Anyway I am looking forward to this weekend’s series against our NL Expansion Cousins the Astros.  The Mets are only 6 back of Leo’s Cubs lol.

Mickey Watch Watch: CBS Sports lists Mickey #1 in the hot seat

The Mickey Watch Watch watches to see what others are saying about a possible Mickey Watch.

There’s no telling what Brodie Van Wagenen wants from a skipper. Van Wagenen did spend the winter upgrading the Mets’ analytics department and roster, however, and made an interesting decision by naming Jim Riggleman bench coach. Riggleman has become the coaching equivalent of a pinch-hitting specialist, having served as an interim manager with the Seattle Mariners, Washington Nationals and most recently last year with the Cincinnati Reds.
