A look back at a 1981 article about Mets All Star Joel Youngblood

I did a search for “Joel Youngblood” with a date range from 1970 to 1985.  Google did not spit out much, but this is a really fun read about the 1981 season when Youngblood didn’t have a starting role….but he was on the All Star Team!

As you read specifically the paragraph below it seems that things never change.  I feel like I could swap out names and describe the 2018 or 2019 Mets.

People around the team translate that managerspeak as follows: Only Mazzilli and Youngblood are day-to-day. Valentine, who has won two games with his bat since joining the Mets, would have to go very bad indeed to be benched. And at the end of last week, Wilson had hit in 20 of the last 25 games and was batting .299 to help the team into second place in the NL East. So that leaves leftfield, and two players feeling left out. The erstwhile Italian Stallion, Mazzilli, had been a dour horse around the clubhouse before returning to the lineup. He wants to find the old swing, and he knows he must play every day to find it. And Youngblood, as always, wants a job. In addition to being bullish about his hitting, Youngblood also knows he’s a good fielder—his arm is accurate and strong. “What do I have to do?” he asks.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: media jerks make fun of Nimmo for being sick

SLACKISH REACTION: Holy cow I just realized it’s only Thursday not the Friday my brain thinks it is.

Here’s my man Wags selling his own nonsense.  I remind Wags this was against the Marlins Spring Training Road Traveling Squad so tap the brakes and get some real OF depth in here.

How the hell did TDKoala get $11 from the Angels?

The media are jerk holes for making fun of Nimmo for getting sick.   Don’t even click my link.  Nimmo had some undercooked chicken and was throwing up so now it’s LOLMets that they need to teach Nimmo to cook.  I hope everyone who wrote such an article gets food poisoning today.

The Mets were invaded by guys wearing #88

How the hell did Matt Harvey get $11 million from the Angels?

So I was thinking about the Free Agent market and….

HOW THE HELL DID MATT HARVEY GET $11M FROM THE ANGELS?  Plus another potential 3 million in incentives

Look at these pictures I am sprinkling in…does any of this look $11M to you?

There’s a really good chance that I saw more Matt Harvey innings than anyone on the Angels last season.

Matt was…OK.   He cannot take a punch, same as when with the Mets.  Oh sure he’s fine in a 1-2-3 inning but if ANYTHING deviates…a walk, a ROE, a hit….the wheels come off and be on the lookout for a 4 spot.

If I had to bet my life on game, I would not bet it on 5 innings and maybe 4 runs.   With a lot of those outs being recorded 380 feet from home plate.

What did you do Angels?  I totally get taking a chance on the guy – although he’s not exactly Mr. Clubhouse – but ELEVEN MILLION?

Sorry Angels, you got Boras’d.  Hard.   I am looking forward to a summer of TDKoala recaps.

Jerkface media thinks its cool to make fun of Mets’ Nimmo being sick

Hey jerkfaces,

Brandon Nimmo was sick.  Throwing up.

I know you like to LOLMets – hell I LOVE to LOLMets, but the difference is I know how to pick my spots.

This is a man, a very nice man but all accounts, and he was sick.  And your instinct is to make jokes.  A bunch of useless beat reporters and the jerks at Deadspin all writing the same stupid article.  Every site, the same content.

Shame on you all.
