Stumbled across a Mettle the Mule reference in 1981 Mets Fog Game article

My Joel Youngblood search turned up this article about the fog game which is interesting enough…but look who gets sort of mentioned…

If the Mets’ pet mule had been roaming the lawn beyond the centerfield fence, he would have been lost in the night.

The umpires, embarrassed by the fact that the home team still had a man on third base with nobody out, rendered a decision that would have pleased Solomon or even Chub Feeney, the president of the National League: play suspended by fog, all the records count (including the fogbound three‐bagger), the game to be replayed in its entirety at a later and presumably clearer date.  (via NY Times)

Despite Mr. Met acting like he’s such a big fan, he was nowhere to be seen in the 1980s (or 1979, I guess the Seaver trade got to him too).  Nowhere.  We had a mule.  Where the hell were you Mr. Met?

Mets Starting 5 tickets Promotion: 2 horrible seats to a weekday game for $11.50! #RRQBT

The Mets were very excited to email me about their Starting Five promotion!

$5 PROMENADE OUTFIELD TICKETS NOW THRU MARCH 5 AT 11:59 P.M.

Celebrate the Mets starting rotation with a limited time $5 Promenade Outfield ticket offer for all Monday-Thursday home games (excluding April 4, July 2 & 3) now through Tuesday, March 5 at 11:59 p.m.

Tickets available for all Monday-Thursday home games excluding April 4, July 2 & 3. Tickets must be purchased online only; offer not available by phone or at the Citi Field Ticket Windows. Tickets are subject to availability with a limit of fourteen (14) tickets per transaction and per ticket fees apply. While supplies last.

That’s nice.  I guess I like the deal.  Some caveats..

I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to get one ticket into my cart…but for two my total price was $11.50 because FEES ARE BACK BABY!   Yes, the Mets have brought back their popular fees program.  So this really appears to be the Mets Starting FIVE SEVENTY FIVE or maybe even the STARTING SIX FIFTY.  Anyway, not too bad..

A reminder of WHERE these seats are.  Prom Left are the worst seats in the major leagues.  RF less hideous.

Oh you don’t believe me about LF?  That’s because nobody has sat there since 2009 when we were all horrified to learn about David Howard’s Geometry.

I mean if you don’t care about seeing the LF its good deal.  (These seats SUCK)

And remember the Mets Police completely disapprove for you of buying $5 seats and then just hanging out on the bridge with the t-shirt weirdos that like to watch games from 550 feet away… or even helping yourself to a seat a little closer to home.  Do not do that.  Assigned seats only.

Anyway this promotion is better than a kick in the eye, so LGM.  Oh wait they want to trademark that.  Um….Rah Rah Queens Baseball Team.  #RRQBT.

Mets Police Morning Laziness: Is SNY actively trying to make everyone hate it?

Please keep us updated Andy.

There is no Mets news today because everyone is writing about Harper.  And the really original people are writing articles with the word Bonilla in it.

A minor note, Edwin Sugar Diaz’ Instagram page is gone.  Perhaps he renamed it, but I do not know to what it has been renamed.

The Mets have brought back their popular Ticket Fees promotion!

SLACKISH REACTION: You guys rock! MetsPolice.com had a bigger month in February than any month in 2017, and a pretty great month for off-season. Thanks for reading, and thanks to MLB for starting the Spring earlier, Matt Harvey for being you, Wags for being a fun character to write for, and of course Darren for not giving a shit about insulting my ancestors.

Oh, I guess I should mention Harper.  As Andy Martino reported above, the Phillies and Harper are significantly apart so there’s no chance he will sign a 13 year deal.  Anyone who thinks the Mets are stupid/cheap for not signing a player for THIRTEEN years is insane.

The thing on my mind is whether or not SNY is trying to make people hate it?  Their main baseball guy is not liked by Mets fans…so let’s double down on that and pair him with Chris Christie…even the people that initially voted for Christie hate him now.

There is no news on the trade of Syndergaard to the Yankees.

Did I mention that…

I hate two hour snow delays for schools.

I hate jerks who park in handicapped spots at the Donuts Chain because there is one inch of snow.  These people also leave their cars running.

Jerks.

Mets bring back popular Ticket Fees program!

Good news…the Mets have brought back Ticket Fees!

During February they had been running an absolutely insane program where they did not pass along Service Chanrges and Convenience Charges…I don’t know how they are even still in business.

But now that February is over, those popular fees are back.  And don’t forget the Per Order charge.   As if there are other ways to buy tickets.

My advice: don’t attend games and buy yourself a nice big TV.
