NLCS Rematch, Mike Piazza Weekend Highlight Mets Schedule in July

The New York Mets (40-34) currently sit three games behind the Washington Nationals in the NL East, but a strong showing in July could completely wipe out the deficit. New York’s July slate, however, is not easy by any means.

New York’s home schedule in July will feature an NLCS rematch against the Chicago Cubs, three games against the Miami Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals, four pivotal games against Washington, and four games against the Colorado Rockies. The All-Star Break takes place in the middle of the month, giving the Mets a chance to rest before starting their second-half run. The Mets are offering some great promotions and giveaways during July, so fans should check out the slate before heading to the ballpark. An overview of New York’s top games in July is presented below.

In fact, according to TiqIQ, the average ticket price for Marlins vs. Mets is $82.62, which is the highest average ticket price during this series. Matz (7-3) who is dealing with elbow tightness, is slated to start this game.

7/9/16 vs. Washington Nationals| Max Scherzer vs. Steven Matz | Avg. Price: $124.26 | Get-in: $30

The Mets and Nationals will start play the third game of a pivotal four-game set on Saturday, July 9th. Hotels near Citi Field are available at Hipmunk for as low as $34, with hotels near JFK airport slightly more expensive at $85.

7/30/16 vs. Colorado Rockies| Pitching Matchup TBD | Avg. Price: $243.99 | Get-in: $48

It’ll be an emotional day on Saturday, July 30th when the New York Mets retire Mike Piazza’s No. 31. The Mets will close out their July slate with a game against the Colorado Rockies on Sunday, July 31st. All fans in attendance will cap off Mike Piazza weekend by receiving a Mike Piazza bobblehead. The average ticket price for this game is $122.63, which is the third highest ticket price in July.

Mets Tickets 6% Below Average For Series Vs Nats

The Mets are the only team in the National League with a positive run differential, and a record under .500. But run differential doesn’t matter when it comes to playoff seeding, and right now the Mets are 7.5 games out of first place in the NL East. Next on the Mets schedule is the Washington Nationals, the team that is leading the division. Lucky for the Mets, the game is at Citi Field, where the team is actually above .500 this season. Winning the series would be a good start if the team wants any hope of being in a pennant race come September. New York Mets tickets are averaging $67.32 for the game, which is six percent below their season average at Citi Field.

8/12 – WAS Doug Fister vs. NYM Rafael Montero | Avg. Price: $61.94 | Get-in Price: $14

The first start of the series goes to rookie Rafael Montero, who is filling in for the injured Jacob deGrom. deGrom is another rookie pitcher for the Mets, who came up the same time as Montero originally. But while Montero struggled mightily and had to be sent down, deGrom flourished and garnered NL Rookie of the Year consideration. But Montero is coming off two of his best starts in the minors, showing the poise and control he was known for as he made his way through the Mets minor league system. The average price for Mets vs Nationals tickets is $61.94 and the get-in price is $14, making it the cheapest game of the series.

8/13 – WAS Jordan Zimmerman vs. NYM Bartolo Colon | Avg. Price: $66.70 | Get-in Price: $14

The following start goes to Bartolo Colon, who was thought to be a trade candidate for a Mets team that was open to selling. But no team was willing to pay the remainder of Colon’s contract, which goes for $11 million next season. Still, Colon has been one of the Mets most reliable pitchers, and has walked the fewest batters while piling up the innings. The price climbs a bit for the game with the average up to $66.70 and the get in price remaining at $14.

8/14 – WAS Stephen Strasburg vs. NYM Dillon Gee | Avg. Price: $73.33 | Get-in Price: $15

The final game of the series is the most expensive, but it probably doesn’t have much to do with the fact that Dillon Gee is starting. Instead, it’s likely to do with the Nationals starter, Stephen Strasburg, who the Mets were lucky enough to miss the last time these two teams met. The average price of the game is $73.33 and the get-in is $15. Strasburg has one of the highest strikeout figures in the entire league while putting together a 3.0 WAR and 3.68 ERA, in a team-leading 156.1 innings.

Mets Tickets 12% Below Average For Series Vs Phillies

Almost ten years ago it was the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets fighting for the NL East crown. Now the two are just trying to stay out of the basement. The Mets have been rebuilding for years now, and the Phillies have slowly joined them as their stars have aged and regressed accordingly. But while the Phillies seem to be falling farther and farther into the depths of the division, the Mets have quietly started to turn things around. The Mets schedule in July wasn’t filled with easy teams, but the team still had the second best record in the division. Mets tickets are averaging $73.05 for the series on the secondary market, down 12 percent from the season average at Citi Field.

7/28 PHI AJ Burnett vs. NYM Bartolo Colon | Avg. Price: $106.58 | Get-in Price: $18

The first game of the series easily has the largest average price. Mets vs Phillies tickets are averaging $106.58 for the game with a get-in price of $18. Bartolo Colon takes the mound for the Mets, and he’s having a good season. Despite a 4.03 ERA, Colon leads the team in WAR through a team-leading 134 innings pitched. He has the best walk rate on the team, and is still getting plenty of strikeouts.

7/29 PHI Cole Hamels vs. NYM Dillon Gee | Avg. Price: $52.96 | Get-in Price: $14

Dillon Gee gets the second start in the series, and his numbers have taken a hit since he’s gotten off the DL. He’s been one of the more effective pitchers in the league over the last year, so he should be ready to kick off the rust sooner or later. He currently has a 3.49 ERA after getting rocked his last few times out, and his walk rate only trails Colon on the team. The game has the lowest average price with a $52.96 ticket average and a $14 get-in price. Rates for Long Island City hotels start at just $89 so you can grab a ticket a hotel room for just over $100.

7/30 PHI Kyle Kendrick vs. NYM Zack Wheeler | Avg. Price: $59.90 | Get-in Price: $17

The final game of the series has an average price of $59.90. Zack Wheeler gets the start, and he has been brilliant for the Mets recently. He has given up no more than one earned run in his last five starts. It’s the flamethrowers first full season, after being regarded as arguably the best prospect in the Mets system. His walk rate is really the only knock against him at the moment, as he’s gone deep into games, gets tons of strikeouts, and has made batters look absolutely foolish on occasions.

Tickets For Mets – Marlins Series 20% Below Season Average

The Miami Marlins have been in contention for most of the season, but have dropped below .500 and 5.5 games out of first in the lackluster NL East. The New York Mets have been out of contention pretty much all season. But at 42-50 they are only eight games out of the division lead thanks to taking three of four from the Atlanta Braves. More shockingly, the Mets record is even with a +4 run differential that ranks them right in line with the Braves. Now the Marlins are on the NY Mets schedule, giving both teams a chance to climb a little further to the top of the division. Mets tickets are averaging $65.77 for the series on the secondary market, a 20 percent drop from the season average at Citi Field.

7/11 MIA Henderson Alvarez vs. NYM Zack Wheeler | Avg. Price: $68.68 | Get-in Price: $18

Zack Wheeler gets the first start of the series for the Mets, and he modestly leads the team with a 1.1 WAR. While his 4.07 ERA isn’t great, his 3.49 FIP is second on the team, and he leads the staff in strikeouts. The average price of the game is the highest of the series at $68.68 and the get-in price is $18.

7/12 MIA Tom Koehler vs. NYM Daisuke Matsuzaka | Avg. Price: $62.72 | Get-in Price: $20

The second start of the series goes to Daisuke Matsuzaka who has had a much better season as a reliever. As a starter Dice-K hasn’t been bad, with a 3.98 ERA and 3.86 FIP in 40.2 innings, but as a reliever he has a 2.22 ERA in 24.1 innings. The game is averaging $62.72 per ticket with a get-in price of $20. To Koehler starts for the Marlins and he’s improved from his rookie season. His strikeout numbers are up and he has put up a sub-4.00 ERA so far at 3.98.

7/13 MIA Brad Hand vs. NYM Jacob deGrom | Avg. Price: $65.90 | Get-in Price: $17

The final game of the series has the lowest get-in price at $17, and the average price is $65.90. Jacob deGrom starts for the Mets, and he has been much better than anticipated. The rookie has a 3.38 ERA in 11 starts, and is only second to Wheeler in strikeout rate. With a WAR of 0.8 it’s likely he would be leading the team if he had the same amount of starts as the three pitchers ahead of him on the staff. The only knock on deGrom is a relatively high walk rate, but he didn’t offer any free passes when he was shutting the Braves out over seven innings in his last start.

MLB All-Star Game tickets are still available to join Daniel Murphy in Minnesota next week.

Mets Tickets For Series Vs Braves 12.8% Below Season Average

The New York Mets will host the Atlanta Braves for four games at Citi Field this week. The Mets schedule has the divisional rivals meeting for the fourth time this season and second time at Citi Field. The Braves schedule will keep Atlanta on the road until after the All-Star break. The season average for Mets tickets on the secondary market is $82.82, but each of the series’ four games will have an average price below that number. The series as a whole will be 12.8% below the season average.

7/7 – Mike Minor vs Daisuke Matsuzaka | Avg. Price: $81.51 | Get-in Price: $14

The series begins tonight when Daisuke Matsuzaka takes the mound for the Mets against Braves lefty Mike Minor. The average price for Mets vs Braves tickets is $81.51, the highest of the series at 1.58% below season average, with a get-in price of $14. Dice-K needs to pitch well tonight if he wants any chance to retain his starting spot as Dillon Gee returns to the starting rotation this week. The Japanese-born pitcher is 3-3 with a 3.72 ERA and has done the majority of his work from the bullpen, starting seven games and appearing as a reliever in 17 games. Minor has struggled over the season’s first half, going just 2-5 with a 4.73 ERA in 12 starts this season.

7/8 – Julio Teheran vs Jacob deGrom | Avg. Price: $69.07 | Get-in Price: $17

The second game of the series will feature Mets rookie Jacob deGrom against the Braves’ Julio Teheran. The average price for Tuesday Mets vs Braves tickets is $69.07, 16.6% below season average, with a get-in price of $17. deGrom enters Tuesday’s game at just 1-5 but has an anemic offense to blame for his poor start in the Majors. Teheran has had a dominant first half, going 8-5 with a 2.29 ERA this season.

7/9 – Ervin Santana vs Dillon Gee | Avg. Price: $63.31 | Get-in Price: $14

Wednesday’s game will see the return of Mets pitcher Dillon Gee following a strained right lat that has sidelined him since May 10. Ervin Santana will get the nod for the Braves. The average price for Wednesday Mets vs Braves tickets is $63.31, the cheapest of the series at 23.5% below season average, with a get-in price of $14. Gee makes his way back to the hill with a 3-1 record and 2.73 ERA this season while Santana enters Wednesday’s game at 7-5 with a 3.93 ERA.

7/10 – Aaron Harang vs Bartolo Colon | Avg. Price: $75 | Get-in Price: $14

The final game of the series will be played Thursday and will see 41-year-old journeyman Bartolo Colon pitch for the Mets against the Braves’ Aaron Harang. The average price for Thursday Mets vs Braves tickets is $75, 9.4% below season average, with a get-in price of $14. Colon is 8-7 with a 4.04 ERA while Harang has similar numbers at 8-6 and a 3.67 ERA.
