1986 Tickertape Parade Photos

We’ve had these up on the site before but given that we just celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the parade of course we have to show them again.

The day of the parade I skipped out on a calculus exam (never did have to use it anyway) and headed downtown  armed with my trusty Canon Sure Shot.

Remember this banner? Here is something you will never see at New Shea.

Ah, the Mets ball girls. They wore the racing stripes well.

Hey look, it’s Fred Wilpon. Sadly the only thing that remains from the 86 team.

Mookie Wilson – all smiles.

Gary Carter, of course smiling waiting for his picture to be taken.
A few years ago at the All-Star Fan Fest I was able to get Gary to sign an 8×10 copy of this picture.

Tim Tuefel. If not for Buckner, Tuefel would have been remembered as the one who let the ball go through their legs.

Wow, it’s the World Series MVP Ray Knight. I’m sure looking forward to seeing him man the hot corner at Shea again next year.

Darryl sped by so fast, I barely had time to take this picture. But that’s ok, I’m sure Doc will be along soon enough…

This was my second ticker tape parade – and I have yet to attend another one.

  1. Love your comments…that first banner maybe one of the first ever to use a Met logo without the NY.

Never knew any Mets uniform existed with sansa-belt slacks until I saw those ballgirls…you should send that into Uni-Watch.

As for never attending another parade, this may cheer you up

and a slogan for the 50th anniversary comes to mind…”It could be worse…at least we are not the Astros”

  2. Great fotos. I attended HS in downtown Brooklyn. If I knew that 1986 would be the last Mets ticker tape parade to date, I would have cut school, walked over the Brooklyn Bridge and dropped into the parade.
