As Banner Day returns, Be Dickey not Dicky

As you may expect I am tremendously excited about the return of Banner Day. Today I call upon 45,000 of you to support the event. I need you to Be Dickey. WE the tribe of Mets fans, the Mets fans who want to celebrate, we the Mets fans who want our franchise to be proud of who they are, we the Mets fans who want tradition to stay now that it’s back, we need you to Be Dickey not dicky. We need you to show up for Banner Day and we need you to act like Dickey.

If more people were like R.A. then the world would be a better place.

First of all he carries himself well. If you spend time with him you get a vibe for how cool and chill he is. Take this lesson with you to Banner Day.

If you’re going to spend the next few months working on the perfect Sell The Team banner please just stay home. You don’t go to someone’s party to insult them. Save your dopey Madoff banner and your Mess puns and stay home. This is a celebration. Be Dickey not dicky.

Would R.A. show up at your house with with a sign that says your girlfriend is ugly? No. Be Dickey.

R.A. does the best with what he can. He wasn’t born with lights out stuff. He learned a knuckler and gets by with what he’s got. You don’t have to paint a mural on bedsheet to take part in Banner Day. Go grab some poster board and a marker and write something positive. I’m likely to walk around with a sign with two words on it. It’s all about the heart. Do your best. Be Dickey.

Most importantly R.A. mans up and supports what he believes in with action. He climbed a mountain for a cause. YOU need to show up on May 27th.

I know it’s a holiday weekend and frankly I’d rather Franco Day be the 27th and Banner Day on June 3rd. I worry about people being away and I worry that the coverage will get lost in the holiday newspaper on Monday. The flip side is that that’s usually a quiet weekend for news so maybe the Mets will get some coverage from non-NASCAR outlets.

YOU need to be there. Stick your crazy theories about how staying home will force the Wilpons to sell and just come enjoy a Sunday afternoon in Queens. Buy whatever the cheapest ticket is, make a sign, and walk in that parade. Do not leave us open to a situation where the Mets can say they brought Banner Day back and nobody cared. YOU have to come. YOU have to support these things for them to stick.

If R.A. can climb a mountain you can scrape together a few bucks and attend a baseball game. You wouldn’t be reading my site unless you’re a big Mets fan. This is the day you must come. Be Dickey.

  1. First thing that popped into my head (feel free to steal, not sure I’ll be marching with a three-year-old and a six-month-old):

    “Wright-Tejada-Murph: NY’s best Ruben sandwich”

  2. Lets give the Mets some credit and love for finally doing something right. I know there are sometimes when they think they are doing the right thing and it blows up in their face, so lets give credit where it is due.

This is actually a tradition that never should have been broken.

Good Job Mets and METS POLICE!
