Mets to wear Brooklyn Royal Giants uniforms on Saturday

Mets Police has learned that the Mets will wear Negro League throwbacks on Saturday.  Mets Police goes on to add that it is annoyed this information came to light after canceling a planned trip to attend this game.

The Pirates website says

Heritage Night: Today the Pirates and Mets will pay tribute to the Negro Leagues with a special Negro League Heritage Game. Each team will wear Negro League uniforms, with the Pirates honoring the Pittsburgh Crawfords and the Mets the Brooklyn Royal Giants.

It is not yet known what the uniform looks like, but it potentially could resemble this Fred Wilpon pleasing 1915 BRG jersey.

At this time no BRG jersey is listed on MLB Shop.  “Special Event Jerseys” do show up on there which is how I grabbed a few Uni-corns in the past.

Click the link in the embedded tweet there to see what they looked like…which is very cool but my theory is based upon the Mets being on the road and Fred liking Brooklyn. Anyway, cool.

Update: the Mets chose not to use this design.
